GUY WALLACE PUTNAM BARKER-PUTNAM RITES SOLEMNIZED SUNDAY AT CALVARY BAPTIST CHURCH it*. • » .. .. ' Miss Virginia Verle Barker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James R. Barker, was married to Guy Wallace Putnam, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde C. Put nam, Sunday, August 18, at Calvary Baptist Church. Rev. J. W. Spillers officiated. The bride, given in marriage by her father, was attended by Miss Gayle Brookshire as maid of honor. The groom’s father served as his best man and ushers were Carroll Barker, cousin of the bride, Eddie Hill, Earl Mar tin and George Thompson, Jr., all of Clinton. Miss Brenda Fallaw was or ganist, and Miss Maria King sang. The bride’s ballerina dress of peau de soie satin and Venice lace was made with fitted bod ice and bracelet sleeves. Her fingertip length veil was a coronet of crystal beads, rhinestones and seed pearls. She carried a white orchid on a white prayer book, gift of the groom. The maid of honor wore a dress of lavender chiffon over taffeta with a fitted bodice and a matching headpiece. She car ried a bouquet of white mums. For a trip to the mountains the bride donned a navy blue suit with white accessories. The bride is a 1963 graduate of Clinton High School. The groom is also a 1960 graduate of Clinton High School and is assistant manager of Winn-Dixie in Woodruff, where the couple will make their home. Out of town guests included Mr. and Mrs. Calvin- Seigler, Vicky and Wallace of Rock Hill; Mrs. Roy Greene of Lau rens; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cor ley of Edgefield; Mr. and Mrs. Merle Gambrell of Woodruff; Mrs. v Henry Smith, Sara and Alice of Plum Branch; William Morgan of McCormick; Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Chaney and John of Enoree; Mr. and Mrs. Millard Murphy and Charlie Cole of Joanna. Hobo Birthday Party For Mitchell Ballew Michael Ballew was honored Saturday in celebration of his 8th birthday by his mother, Mrs. Edgar Ballew, at their home on Fair Drive in Lakeview. A hobo theme was carried out in decoration and in the party re freshments. Freddie Spillers of Clinton, and Fredia Setxer of Cross Hill, won prizes for the most unique costumes. After ap propriate games were played, the young hobos enjoyed refresh ments of hot dogs, chips, lemon ade, ice cream and the birthday cake. Mrs. Ballew was assisted by Mrs. Joe Spillers. Parents of Groom Give Rehearsal Party Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Putnam entertained at the rehearsal party for the Putnam-Barker wedding August 17 in the social hall of Calvary Baptist Church. Sandwiches, mints, cookies and punch were served. The center- piece for the table was made up of pink carnations, pink begonias and pink nylon net ting. The table was overlaid with white linen. The bride and groom honored the at tendants with a gift. Rpy-Edge Rites Are Announced Mr. and Mrs. Edward H. Ray of 713 North Adair Street, announce the marriage of their daughter, Wynona Ray, to Mc Duffie Edge of Myrtle Beach and Fort Eustis, Va. The ceremony was performed August 13 at 10:00 a. m. at the First Baptist Church in Lau rens by the Rev. Robert S. Cooper. After November 15 Mr. and Mrs. Edge will make their home in Clinton. Ann Townsend Baker, George Thomas Miller Wed In Church Rites Miss Anne Townsend Baker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ken neth Norton Baker of 305 Hickory Street, became the bride of George Thomas Miller, Jr., Au gust 24th at 3:00 p. m. in the chapel of the First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Miller is the son of Mrs. Emery Smith and the late Mr. Miller of Sylvania, Ga. Dr. William Redd Turner per-j formed the ceremony, and Mrs. Thomas Heath Copeland served as organist. The bride was given in mar riage by her father, and her only attendant was Mrs. C. L. Eargle of Augusta, Ga. Howard Miller of Sylvania, Ga., brother of the groom, was best man and C. L. Eargle of Augusta, served as usher. The bride wore a peau de soie princesse dress designed with scoop neckline and elbow-length Sleeves. The flared skirt was bal lerina-length. Tiers of French il lusion extended waist - length from her crown of orange blos soms. She carried white roses in terspersed with stephanotis and pearl sprays and a bridal hand kerchief of linen and lace. The attendant’s dress of white silk was fashioned with scoop neckline, cap sleeves and bouf fant skirt. Her headdress match ed the dress and her flowers were French red carnations. After a reception in the church parlors the couple left for a trip to the mountains of North Caro lina and Tennessee. After Sep tember first they will be at home at the Medical College of Geor gia, Augusta. Georgia. Mrs. Miller is a graduate of Clinton High School. She received the B. S. degree from Limestone College, Gaffney. She is also a graduate of Cabarrus Memorial Hospital School of Medical Tech nology, Concord, N. C M and at present is working in medical technology at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, Georgia. Mr. Miller was graduated from Screven County High School, Syl vania, Georgia. He received the B.S. degree at the University of Georgia in 1961 and is now a rising junior at the Medical Col lege of Georgia, and a brother of Theta Kappa Psi medical frater nity. ■m, PATSY ANN CAMPBELL Compbell-Tindal Engagement Mr. and Mrs. James William Campbell, 610 Shands Street, announce the engagement of their daughter, Patsy Ann, to Airman first class James Er nest Tindal, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Tindal of Colum bia. The wedding date will be an nounced later. Baker-Miller Wedding Breakfast A lovely wedding breakfast for Miss Anne Baker and George Miller was given on Saturday at the home of Dr. and Mrs. D. O. Rhame. Hosts and host esses for the occasion with the Rhames were Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Hart, Mrs. W. L. Marshall, Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. F. P. Thomp son of Laurens. Guests, who included members of the wedding party and out of town visitors here for the cere mony, were served buffet style in the dining room. An imported linen cover was used and an epergne filed with pink roses cen tered the table. Asters, roses, and mums dec orated the receiving rooms where covers were laid for the guests, at small tables. Appointing these' were bouquets of rosebuds and asters. Place cards were atach- cd to the favors of miniature rice bags in pastel tints. A cor sage marked the place of the bride. CARD OF THANKS The family of R. S. Presbyterian Churches for their many kindnesses shown at his tragic death. The flowers, food and many expressions of sympathy were greatly appre ciated. Plans Announced For Kindergarten Start At First Presbyterian Parents meetings for the First Presbyterian Church weekday kindergarten were held on Tues day and Wednesday at the church. Reese Young, chairman of the Kindergarten committee, wel comed the parents and introduc ed the teachers. Mrs. J. P. Rowland, director and teacher, spoke on what kind of pre-school program truly min isters to the needs of children under six. She discussed the needs of the kindergarten child, what he does and what he will be learning. Brochures about the kindergar ten were distributed to each par ent. The kindergarten will open on September 3 with one week of orientation. One group will at tend on Tuesday, September 3 and a second on Wednesday, Sep tember 4. Both groups will attend on September 5 and 6. Hours dur ing the first week will be 8:30 until 10 a. m. Regular hours of 8:30 until 11:30 a. m. will be followed be ginning on September 9. DOWDLE Brock-Dowdle Rites Solemnized Satuday Miss Mildred Eileen Brock and Marion Walker Dowdle were married Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at the Sarah Baumgartel Home on Thorn well Campus, with Dr. M. A. Macdonald officiating. The ceremony was performed in a setting of pink roses, mag nolia, and greenery, accented by candelabra hold ing pink tapers. David Templeton of Clinton, pianist, presented a program of wedding music. The couple entered together and were attended by Mr. and Mrs. John Dowdle, brother and sister-in-law of the groom. For her wedding the bride chose a brown sheath dress with a beige jacket and a matching beige hat with circular veil and bone accessories. She carried Garden Party roses on a Bible. After a reception the Couple left for Ft. Hood, Texas where the groom will be stationed in the Army. Both Mr. and Mrs. Dowdle are graduates of Thomwell High School. Mrs. Dowdle attended Winthrop College for two years. Mr. Dowdle was graduated from Presbyterian College and served in the Army for three years. For the past year he has been a member of the Thornwell staff. Golf Luncheon At Lakeside Tuesday The Ladies Golf Association of Lakeside Country Club will have their luncheon meeting Tuesday, September 3.
