Avast ye swabbies put to shore!** Captain Shark Finn tailed a tight Ship. He stood peering out ova* the vast ocean at the glist ening strand of white that lay in the path of his four mast’r. A grotesque grin broke across his weather-beaten brow as he thought of the beach and the bounty he would stow in some forsaken spot. Alluded by his chasers, he had, and a gallant chan>pion of the crossbones he has proven! He was but one of the great number who lived reckless lives roving the Atlantic near the shipping routes, lying in wait for some prize vessel carrying rich wares from England to the New Coun try. The shore sighted by “the Shark of the Seas” could well have been that of South Carolina The year was early In the 1700’s and the scene was of abandon ment. Few rarely visited the beaches, except near populated cities. And even then only in large well-protected parties. You may not fly the cross- bones, nor sail a four mast’r, nor seek to bury a pot of gold on the beach, but you can take a land voyage to the same setting that once enticed pirates. This is our object on another Palmetto Path way. The shore sighted by “the Shark” on that long ago day may have been Litchfield Beach. Lo cated along the lower tip of the Grand Strand, this five - mile stretch of sand attracts fortune tea to await the night when it can return to some other spot to leave eggs in another hide away. Only at night, when the moon is brightest will these sea faring mammals venture inland more than a few yards. This writer was invited to tag along on one of these turtle egg is the oceanside partiee rfuHng hunts at North Litchfield Beach which the eggs of giant turtles are sought. Several gather to roast weiners over embers of burning reef wood or dead sea stumps. Then, they pair off to search into the depth of the night for the telltale trails of turtles. At the end of these trails land ward is where the turtle roots into a deep hole to lay Its eggs en masse. . The turtle then forsakes the eggs and covers them with a thick layer of sand. Like the pi rate, the turtle then goes back to ..thflj (h(? ir+rfc soon for a rendezvous with Litch field Beach and its enchanting experiences. Take a Palmetto Pathway seaward and stop only when you feel the grit of clean golden sand between your toes. Facilities for delightful living are available year ’round either for overnight stays or long va cations at Litchfield. Your local recently. Quite an experience May we suggest you “set sail” CREDITORS’ NOTICE All persons having claims against the estate of Louella L.
