YARBOROUGH STUDIO and CAMERA SHOP \ Corner Musgrove and Pitts Streets Cameras — Films — Photo Finishing By We keep only those things which we give away! It sounds paradoxical, but it is true. The Bible reminds us of this, “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure pressed down, shaken together and running over . . .” Other writers have likewise reminded us of this as Rosseau, who said, “Every man goes down into his grave, hold ing aloft in his clutched hands only those things which he has 'gtifett away.’* " Life is a stewardship. Certain abilities and materials are en trusted in our care for use. They are not to be kept, but to be shared. Those who learn to do that learn the secret of true hap piness. I am continually impressed by the happy dispositions of those men and women who have learn ed to willingly share their talent and their money. In my congregation we are still raising funds to pay for one of our buildings. The majority of those who have been asked to contribute have done so willingly and enthusiastically. Personal friends outside the congregation have joined in, some of them un solicited. In the course of my solicitation one friend who gave me a gen erous check observed that he did this because he liked to do it, not simply because he could deduct it from his income tax. He said that the man who held back on giving was like the fanner who held back on milking his cow. Reared on a'farm, he said that if a cow was to be kept produc tive, she must be milked every day. He said the same is true of a man, woman, boy, girl. Each must give away something to others every day-time, service, money. My good friend is correct. Charles Dickens illustrates the truth of that in his famous Christmas carol, portraying Ebe- nezer Scrooge as a tight fisted old man who kept everything for himself and as a result was left to himself by others. Then the dramatic change on that mem- oraMe Christmas night when he learned the art of giving. He was a different Ebenezer Scrooge from that on. One of the great laws of the universe is that we share what we have or lose it; that we di vide or die. TNM CIRTWCATS UltlTlM VM TO I 50 IfeC Green Stamps 0 s* WHO— MO *>• wrM«»» *r Ooa ll-M.
