JOHNSON TO BEGIN POST-GRADUATE WORK Professor and Mrs. J. Karl Johnson, Jr., and daughter, Jane Anne, of Clemson, spent several days last week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Karl Johnson, Sr. Prof. Johnson will begin post graduate studies in mechanical engineering at the Georgia Insti tute of Technology in Atlanta. He has been granted a leave of ab sence from Clemson College for this purpose. He has received a fellowship from the National Sci ence Foundation, a faculty fel lowship of fifteen months tenure. These studies will be toward the Doctor of Philosophy Degree. Miss Mary Ann Holland has returned from a visit with Mrs. E. M. Murphy and Mrs. J. L. Tripp near Easley. VISITING IN FAR EAST Mrs. Raymond Pitts and Mrs. Hercules Wise left Saturday for Los Angeles, California, where they will join a tour visiting Tokyo, Tapeii, Hong Kong, and other points in the Far East. Mr. and Mrs. John Addison, accompanied by their daughter, Miss Elaine Addison, of Wash ington, D. C., who has been visit- near future. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Edwards of Rutherfordton, N. C., spent the week-end -with the latter’s pa rents, Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Pitts. Dr. and Mrs. N. C. Wessinger and children spent Sunday with the former’s mother, Mrs. N. L. Wessinger, in Newberry. RETURN FROM TEXAS Mrs. Jack Red and Johnny re turned yesterday from a week’s visit with Mrs. Red’s brother and sister-in-law^ Mr. and Mrs. Tom Bolt, in Dallas, going especially for the wedding of her niece, Miss Sandra Bolt. Mr. and Mrs. George Lane of Avondale Estates, Ga., spent the weeke-nd with the lalter’s pa rents, Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Sta ton. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Harris and daughter, Elizabeth of Char leston were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Watts Davis and family. . Mrs. J. B. They were ac companied by their son, Sandy and Dick Copeland, who left Sun day for a two weeks stay at Cases Basketball School of the Mrs. George R. Blalock and Milling Blalock are spending this week at their cottage at Pawley’s Island. ‘Sister” Blalock is at tending the Leadership Training School which is being held at Presbyterian College this week. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Muller and Miss Suzanne Watkins at tended the wedding of Miss E- laine Ogburn and David Waters in Ridegway, Tuesday. Mr. Wat ers was a member of the 1962 graduating class of Presbyterian College. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Jarvis and children of Rock Hill spent the week-end with Mrs. Jarvis’ mother, Mrs. Ethel R. Pitts. Mrs. Henry B. Cook of Waiter- boro spent the past week with her sisters, Mrs. Louise Hilton and Miss Essie Davidson. Mrs. W. W. Blackwell of Flo rence is visiting her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William E. Blackwell. Mrs. Quinn is the former Miss Ethelene Gregory of this city. Mrs. Tom EUiott and small daughter of Ft. Bliss, Texas are spending the summer with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Sta ton while Lt. Elliott is partici pating in “Operation Swift Strike”, giant maneuvers which will be held in the Carolinas. George Blalock, Jr., medical college student is at Self Me morial Hospital in Greenwood, where he will be employed dur ing the summer months. Mrs. Marguerite Ferguson of Columbia spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Jodie C. Mc Millan. RESIDENTS LOSE KIN Mrs. Louis Bond and Mrs. Carolus Ravis were called to Spartanburg by the death of their mother and sister, Mrs. Flossie Corn Garrett of Spartanburg which occurred May 30, follow ing an illness of five months. Dr. and Mrs George R. Miss Wilder was also one of seven seniors presented awards for outstanding achievement. She won the coveted Mary Mildred Sullivan award to a senior wom- aa*4«?„“high aspirations and no ble humanitarian service.” She is the daughter of Mrr and Mrs. R. P. Wilder of Clinton. Linda Bridges Gets Degree From Furman Miss Linda Bridges, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Bridges, received her B. A. de- dree in English Sunday, June 2, at the graduation ceremony at Furman University in Green ville. Beginning in September, Miss Bridges will teach 11th grade English at James Jsland High School in Charleston. CHS Publications Name 63-64 Staffs Sister Blalock and Janet Ham er will head Clinton High School’s annual publication, The Clintonian, for 1963-64 and Dishie Delany will edit The Sentinel, high school newspaper. The 1963-64 staffs were recently announced.
