Jackson, Mrs. Eddie Ray and Miss Wynona Ray were hostesses at a buffet dinner Saturday evening at the home of the former, honoring Miss Myra Pitts and Sandy Templeton, whose wedding will take place Saturday evening at Broad Sotreet Methodist Church, and their attendants. The buffet table, overlaid with a white cutwork cloth, was cen tered with an arrangement of pink roses flanked by candela bra. Guests found their places at ^ small tables. GA'S Honored On Anniversary The Woman’s Missionary So ciety of Davidson Street Baptist Church entertained with a Moth er-Daughter party honoring the GA’s on the Fiftieth anniver sary of the Southern Baptist Con vention. The tea table was cen- itered with a three tier cake in white with green and gold frost ing. A gold Fifty centered the top tier. Gold candles flanked the centerpiece with garlands of gold ribbons. Mrs. Laura Mae Howard, W.M.U. president, welcomed the guests and Mrs. Oscar Kinard helped with the register. Others assisting in serving and enter taining were Mrs. Joe Campbell, Mrs. E. A. Yellow Jessamine Club Meets The Yellow Jessamine Garden Club met Monday afternoon, at the home of Mrs. Pluss Brown with Mrs. Ralph Copeland, co hostess. Following the business ses sion Mrs. W. C. Shealy presented an interesting program on Birds giving a paper on the life of Au dubon. Mrs. George W. Cope land, a guest presented a paper on the birds of the Bible. Refreshments were served dur ing the social hour. Mrs. Black's Students In Annual Recital National piano guild statutes were presented nine students by Thomas F. Hollis at the recital Saturday evening by students of Mrs. Robert F. Black at the Clinton High School auditorium. The awards were given students receiving the highest grades at the National Piano Guild held here in March. Statutes were pre sented Bill Shields, Janice Pin- son^.Jane Johnson, Pat Thoma son,'high school students; Nancy Hollis, Sophie Young, junior high; Mary Bailey Vance, Renie Hollis, and Julie Young, Hamp ton Avenue students. Receiving certificates were Jan King, Lee Davis, Jim Johnson, Sally Mi lam, Dell Young, Beth Johnson, and Janice Weir. A large floor basket of peonies, snapdragons and pink glads was effective on the stage. Music Students Sumerel In Recital q Friday evening, May 17, the students of Mrs. Maude Sumerel gave their piano recital at the Social Hall, First Baptist Church. Students participating were Steve Bishop, Tony Bishop, Rhonda Sue Butler Jane Yar brough, Sara June Gooch, Cry stal Stilwell, Pattie Plowden, Grace Blackwell, Darrel Leo nard, Belinda Leonard, Susan Fakkema, Sharon Fakkema, Sara Weldon Jackson, Jenny Ed wards, June Brundrick, Janet Lawson, and Frances Cunning ham. An arrangement of snapdra- gons on the piano was very ef fective. Mrs. T. L. W. Bailey, Mrs. F. F. Fowler, Mrs. John Roseboro and Mrs. J. W. More assisted in serving ice cream and cook ies follow the recital. Members Attend Columbia Convention The South Carolina Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs, Inc., held its annual state convention for 1963 in Columbia May 17,18 and 19 at the Jefferson Hotel. The theme of the convention was “Positive Action—A Dimension in Leader ship.” Attending from the local club were the following: President, Mrs. Grace Connor; First Vice- President, Mrs. Esther Pitts; outgoing President, Mrs. Myrtle Johnson; also Mrs. Margaret Lockett and Miss Marian Burts. The board dinner on Friday evening honored club presidents. After the business session, all members were invited to several parties for candidates to be elect ed on Saturday. Party food was served and souvenirs presented at each party. On Saturday at 7:00 a. m. there was a class ^ Parliamentary Procedure led by Miss Margue rite DeVore. Saturday’s luncheon, “Dimen sions in Membership,” honored all new members. The district di rectors put on an attractive and amusing skit, “Gems for Jean." In the afternoon various infor mative workshops were held. The banquet on Saturday eve ning honored past state presi dents. The address of the evening was given by t£e national repre sentative, Dr. Frances White- head, of the University of Illi nois. Later, a reception was held in honor of Dr. Whitehead. A July wedding is planned. The Melligrom Book Club Meeting The Meligram Book Club meet Monday, May 27, at the home of Mrs. Tench Owens. Mrs. R. C. Adair Jn, gave a very interesting and informative program on the life of Grace Col- lidge, keeping with the yearly theme of the First Ladies of the White House. Dainty refreshments were serv ed during the social hour. Legion Auxiliary In Memorial Service The American Legion Auxiliary of the Copeland-Davidson Post held its May meeting Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Nene Workman on E. Carolina Avenue. The meeting was opened with prayer followed by the business session led by the president, Mrs. P. M. Pitts. The following new officers were nominated and elected to serve during the coming year: Presi dent, Mrs. P. M. Pitts; Vice President, Mrs. Perry Moore; Secretary, Mrs. Frank Miller; Treasurer, Mrs. L. O. Thornley; Historian, Mrs. W. C. Baldwin; Chaplain, Mrs. W. H. Simpson; Sergeant-At-Arms, Mrs. Nene Workman. The annual reports were given by the committee chairmen. Mrs. G. W. Copeland, chair man of the Memorial committee, gave an impressive memorial program and service. Seven red candles were lighted in memory of World War I, World War II, Korean veterans, veterans in hos pitals, War Orphans, widows, men who lost their lives at sea and a gold candle for the Gold Star mothers. Mrs. Nene Work man, Gold Star Mother was pre sented a flower arrangement in Carolina Wren Club In Meeting The Carolina Wren Garden Club held its regular meeting at the home of Mrs. Gary Hol combe. , The meeting was called to or der by the president, Mrs. Eula Owens. Mrs. Laura Mae Howard gave some garden hints for May fol lowed by a brief business session. Mrs. Holcombe introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Judson Bremher, who gave a most in teresting and informative-lecture on formal and informal teas. The guests were-invited into the din ing room illustrated with a mid- era tea. The tahle was overlaid with lavender and purple linen. Centering the table was an ar rangement of Martha Washing ton plume, spirea, and roses in tones of pink, lavender and pur ple in an amethyst cut-glass, compote. Flanking the arrange ment was an amethyst Italian crystal candle holder with pink lighted tapers. From a prettily adorned table assorted dainty sandwiches, hot- buns, chips, cookies, nuts, and mints were served. Mrs. Guy Tumblin poured tea. Mrs. J. W. Moore assisted the hostess in serving. Davis-Pitts Feted With Luncheon Mrs. Davis Pitts and daugh ters, Mrs. John Lay of Ware Shoals, and Mrs. Glenn Reaves of Texas, entertained Miss Betsy Davis and Miss Myra Pitts with luncheon Saturday at the home of Mrs. Cecil Wilson on Ansel Drive. As the guests assembled, they were invited into the family room where punch was served by Mrs. Reaves. Lunch was served buffet style from a prettily appointed table overlaid with pink linen cover. The arrangement was made in a white imperial milk glass com pote holding an arrangement of pink glads and white chrysanthe mums and gypsophilia. Guests were seated on the breezway at tables overlaid with white, each centered with stand ing pink net hearts, flanked with shades of pink sweet williams and gypsophilia. Out of town guests included Mrs. Roy Poe of Las Vegas, Nev. and Mrs. Charles Lawrence of Clemson.
