V. Smith. This will be a short business meeting and it is hoped all members will be present. Entertains Club Mrs. Michael Turner and Mrs. Reese Young were prize winners last Thursday after noon, May 16, when Mrs. Mar vin Gault entertained members of her bridge club. An arrangement of pansies and roses in the living room made the setting for the tables of bridge. A sweet course was served between progressions. A pink and white color scheme was carried out in the floral arrangements of mixed summer flowers, used through out the rooms. A salad course and dainties were served by the hostesses, Mrs. Jerry Davis, Mrs. Jimmy Braswell, Mrs. Robert Ed wards, Mrs. Jerry Pitts, and Mrs. Jack Pitts. Pitts, Jr. and Mrs. Fred Pitts were hostesses at a bridge party at the home of the latter on Musgrove Street Ex tension. Arrangements of mixed sum mer flowers were used in the card rooms. Following several progressions, a salad plate was served. A number of guests were invited after cards. Miss Pitts was remembered with a gift of china. Mrs. Wilson is a gradaute of Clinton High School and attend ed Anderson College this year. Mr. Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lowry M. Wilson, is a graduate of Clinton High School and is a rising junior at Clem- son College. Joanna Girls Auxiliary Notes 50th Anniversary The Girls’ Auxiliary of the First Baptist Church, Joanna, held a 50th anniversary bah- quest with ninety guests pres ent on Saturday, May 18. Miss Barbara Johnson wel comed the guests. The receiving line was composed of leaders, Mrs. Ruby Long, Mrs. Robert Crolley, Mrs. Billy Adkerson, Mrs. Jessie Johnston, and Mrs. Ray Bragg, director The invocation was given by the pastor, Rev. James B. Mitchell. Welcome was given by Gerry Lgrag, and Harold Murphy responded for parents . Music was directed by Mrs. Ethel R. Riser, accompanied by Jennie Rae Surratt i A history of the church since 1940 was read by Mrs. Jessie Johnston. Mrs. Riser sang “O Divine Redeemer,” by Gounod. A Girls’ Auxiliary tree was formed by members. Girls were dressed to represent the years 1886-1968. Rhonda Rikard and Ginger Byars were narrators. Billy Adkerson gave the bene diction. The banqufet room was dec orated with antiques. The stage represented an attic as the girls presented the program. A three- tier anniversary cake adorned the main table. . . Following the recital, Mrs. Ferdinand Jacbs will entertain the “Devilaires” and members of the senior class at her home honoring Miss Black. Miss Gray Feted With Luncheon Miss Margaret Gray. June 15th bride-elect, was entertain ed with a luncheon last Satur day afternoon, May lO, at the home of Mrs. Cecil Wilson by the teachers of Hampton Avenue School. Punch was served by Mrs. R. C. Adair, Jr., as the guests ar rived. A pink and white motif was used in decorations throughout the home. Lunch was served buffet style from a prettily appointed table overlaid with a pink linen cloth with a side arrangement of Helen Trauble roses to a crys tal epergne. „ a Mrs. J. M. Gettys Honors . Brides-Elect Misses Wiley and Betsy Da vis, June brides-elect, were en tertained with a luncheon re cently at the home of Mrs. J. M. Gettys on East Centennial Street. A pink color note was effec tively used throughout the home in arrangements of roses. Fourteen guests were seated for lunch at tables adorned with pink rose nosegays. Miss Jean Gettys assisted her mother in entertaining. The honor guests were re membered with gifts. Garden Clubs To Meet Monday The Yellow Jessamine Garden Club will have its regular monthly meeting Monday, May 27, at 3j30 p. m., with Mrs. Pluss Brown at her home on the Laurens highway. Mrs. W. C. Shealy will pre sent a -program on birds. * • • The Carolina Wren Garden Club will meet Monday r May 27, at 3:30 at the home of Mrs. Gary Holcomb on North Owens street. Mrs. J. W. Moore will be co-hostess. A program on “Teas,” bring ing out the table and floral ar rangements, will be presented by Mrs. Judson Brehmer. Since this is the last meeting of the summer it is important for all members to attend. WCTU Meets With Mrs. Dailey The May meeting of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union was held at the home of Mrs. J. B. Dailey on Sunset Boulevard Tuesday, May 14. Mrs. J. B. Wilder presided in the absence of Mrs. Hubert Todd. The scripture reading was taken from the 13th chapter of I Corinthians and the devotion al theme was “Home, the Mag ic Wand.” Prayer was offered every American home that pa rents abstain from the use of alcoholic drinks, and that they realize they are recording ma chines recording their actions for their children to imitate. “International Survival” was discussed by Miss Essie Da vidson, and Mrs. C. T. Thoma son spoke on National Survival, Mrs. E. L. Holland and Mrs. Belle Henderson read jointly, “Your Problem and Mine.” The meeting was closed with prafer by Mrs. Clyde Todd. Entertains Bridge Club Mrs. Don Creighton was host ess to members of her bridge club last Wednesday afternoon at her home in Merrie Oaks. Guests included Mrs. John Rivers, Mrs. Ernest Ouzts, and Mrs. James Tiller. A dessert course of strawber ry cake with tea was served be fore play. Score winners were Mrs. Til ler and Mrs. Ouzts. Summer Comp At Fellowship, Lake Greenwood There will be a summer camp for Blue Birds, Camp Fire and Horizon Club girls at Cafnp Fellowship, Lake Green wood. This year Petaga and Lewa Districts of the Camp Fire or ganization will leave for Camp Fellowship on June 10 and re turn on June 15. Camp Fellowship is a beauti ful camp owned by the Presby terians. Its dormitories are ade quately equipped with modern facilities in each building. There will be certified life guards and also some professional help. Rev. Julian Weisner, pastor of Bailey Memorial Methodist Church, will have charge of recreation for several evenings. Mrs. Marvin Whitmire, grad uate of Newberry College, will have classes in nature study each day. The course will in clude materials obtained from the Forestry Extension Service of Clemson College. Miss Brenda FaUaw and Miss Alice Cunningham, both of Win- throp College, will be members of the staff. The leaders of each group are expected to attend. Mrs. Eva Land and Miss Nel lie Osborne will serve as camp directors. Honor Friends At Luncheon Last Wednesday and Thurs day Mrs. Gary Lehn and Mrs., • ~ Dan Orr entertained friends with a luncheon at the home of the former on Chestnut Street. After guests had assembled, they were -invited into the din ing room wheqi lunch was served buffet style from a pret tily appointed fltble overlaid with white linen 1 and centered with a May Pole decoration with an arrangement of rosea and snapdragons in shades of pink at one end. Guests were seated at small tables which were centered with miniature May Pole de orations. Focal points to the living room were two arrangements of roses, coral bells, snap dragons and columbine of the same color note 8n the mantel and piano. Assisting the hostesses were * Mrs. George Frady and Mrs. Ed King.— — —— Miss Davis Feted In Rock Hill - Miss Betsy Davis, whose marriage to Charles Wagner McKinney of Hampton, is to take place June 2, was honor ed with a tea by Mrs. Sam Todd in Rock Hill Saturday afternoon at the Todd home. The tea table, overlaid with pink organdy, was adorned with an arrangement of pink carna tions and glads, flanked with silver candelabra to one side. Punch was served from a silver bowl and refreshments were centered around the pink motif: Guests included classmates of Miss Davis’ at Winthrop College and Mrs. Butler Milling of Greenwood, Mrs. Jeff Boland, and Mrs. Jack Davis of this city.
