Hie other afternoon while waiting for some children to alight from the bus an accident happened which maybe no one else paid any attenton to, except the driver and myself. The bus had stopped, displaying the usual pre caution signs, and several hoys and girls got off, in the presence of the “patrolman* 1 crossed the highway, promptly, as they should have with the exception of one boy, who I estimated to be around 11 years of age. He ambled in front of the bus and was across the road, far enough, anyhow, for the “partolman” to get back on the bus and for the driver to pull in Ms stop signs and cut off the blinking lights. AH of a sudden he turned around, ran hack in front of the bus, stopped, and started laughing and “dancing,** thinking apparently, that he was really being funny. The bus driver, as well as the driver of the car headed in the opposite direction hit their brakes and waited for him to finish his little dance (in, the middle of the highway) and wander on back across Hie road. In a split second this could have resulted in a terrible tragedy if either party had not displayed such precaution. So I urge each of you to please make your children aware of the danger of such antics. Black, Jr. On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Fellows of Newberry, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Black and family of Greenwood, visited the Black family. Mr. and Mrs. David R. Coker and Marvin were called to Green ville Wednesday of last week due o the death of her grandfather, H. W. Smith. Funeral services were held on Thursday. Mrs. James Fuller and chil dren of Greenville, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Griffin and children of Greenwood, spent Mother’s Day with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. Hamilton. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Goss and family were in Rock Hill on Sunday, May 5, for open house at Bancroft Hall at Winthrop Col lege where their daughter, Jan ice, rooms. They also attended church at the West End Baptist Church where Miss Goss is or ganist. Miss Sandy Huffstetler has re turned from Warm Springs, Ga. where she was a patient for several weeks. She is now at the home of her grandparents, Mr and Mrs. Burroughs, on the Whitmire highway for a few weeks visit. Frank Goss and sons, Jerry Wells and Warren, visited Mrs G. W. Bowen, Mr. and Mrs. P. L Hall in Augusta, Ga., Sunday Friends will be sorry to know Mrs. Bowen is ill. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Clarly and son of Greenville, were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lew is Abercrombie. Donald S. RusseU signed into law Wednesday legislation which reduces residency require ments for voting. In the future, voters will be eligible to vote after one year’s residency in South Carolina, in stead of two years; after six months residency instead of a year in the county; and after three months residency instead of four months in a precinct. The new law amends an old statute. Earlier in the legisla tive session, the lawmakers rati fied a constitutional amendment to make the same residency re quirement changes in the consti tution.
