To Meet Next Monday The Woman’s S o cj e t y of Christian Service of the Broad Street Methodist Church will meet Monday, May 6, at 3:30 p. m. at the church. Mrs. Smith Is Hostess To Club The Wednesday Bridge Club met last week at the home of Mrs. Milford Smith on Elm Street. A spring bouquet of roses made the setting for hte two tables of bridge. Between progressions, Mrs. Smith served cokes, sandwich es, and sweets. Mrs. Carl Wessinger and Mrs. Don Creighton were prize win ners for the afternoon.--* Miss Milam Given Kitchen Shower On Saturday afternoon of last week Mrs. Jerry Davis of Greenville, and her mother, Mrs. William G. Milam, honor ed Miss Linda Milam with a kitchen shower at the home of Mrs. Milam on North Adair Street. Arrangements of pink roses were used in the living room and also in refreshments. Miss Milam was presented many useful gifts and a pink rosebud corsage. Sigma Nu "White Star Ball'' The Sigma Nu fraternity of Presbyterian College held its annual “White Star Ball” Sat urday night, April 27, at the Lakeside Country Club. The ballroom was beautifully decorated with hurricane lamps centered with each of the ta bles overiaid with white cloth. From the ceiling fell streamers of crepe paper and stars. A fluorescent light was very ef fective centered upon an arch way decorated in the fraternity colors. ^ During the intermission the ladies were presented a white rose, followed with presenta tion of brothers and pledges. Marshall Jones and Kent Mitch ell were jointly awarded brother of the year. Robert stack was honored as the pledge Of the year. Miss Mary Louise Collens was College Dames Meet Tonight v _ The College Dames will hold the regular meeting tonight, Thursday, at 8 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Alec Stump on Calhoun Street. U. D. C.iWill - Meet Tonight The Stephen v. Lee Chatper, United Daughters of the Confed eracy, wil meet with Mrs. J. A. Chandler at her home on Centen nial Street this evening (Thurs day) at 7:30. All members are urged to be present. Canasta Club Wth Maddens On Saturday evening of the past week, Mr. and Mrs. John Madden entertained members of their couples canasta club. An arrangement of roses were very effective in the living room. Iced tea, cake and nuts were served following play. Winthrop Graduate Miss Myrna Sease was re cently graduated at Winthrop College, Rock Hill, at the end of the winter quarter. She will receive her Bachelior of Sci ence degree in Elementary Education during the gradua tion services in June. Highlights From the High Qinton Music Club Notes National Week “Let the World Rejoice With Music” is the theme of National Music Week, which will be ob served May 5-12 throughout the nation, sponsored by the Nation al Federation of Music Clubs. The Clinton Music Club will be observing the event locally, according to Mrs. Henderson Pitts, chairman of the event, and Mrs. Lewis Hay, president of the club. ^ Local schools will present va- nous musical programs and re citals, assisted by music teach ers. The Clinton High School band will also present a pro gram. •' Two special twenty-minute pro grams of song will be given by the Music Club over WLBG- AM-FM. The first program will be heard at 2:35 Sunday, May 5, and the second on Tuesday, May 7, at 9:05 a. m. Black and Mr. Chester A. Dubberly of Jacksonville. Miss Basemore is the granddaughter of Mrs. John Robert Dillard and the late Mr. Dillard formerly of Clinton, and a niece of Mrs. J. B. Wilder of Clinton. Miss Basemore is a 1963 Graduate of Jacksonville Uni versity, and will teach this fall at San Mateo Elementary School. Mr. Dubberly will begin his Senior Year at Jackson ville University this fall in preparation for a degree in Library Science. June 15 is the date set for the ceremony, which will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Epperson Memorial Methodist Church. Junior-Senior is the big topic at CHS this week. The juniors, who worked hard to raise nearly a thousand dollars from the cake sale, are working just as hard to decorate the gym this week. The event will take place Friday night at 8 o’clock. CHS girls can be heard everywhere discussing dates, dresses, and parties. ■ • • • Joe Gettys, the son of Dr. and Mrs. J. M. Gettys, has been chosen Student of the Month for April. At CHS Joe has been a member of the Latin Club, the Key Club, the Beta Club, and the Block “C” Club. This year he served as co-captain of the basketball team and as business manager of the Clintonian. He Iris Garden Club With Mrs. Davis The Iris Garden Club held its tegular meeting April 24 at 3:30 with Mrs. W. A. Davis, Jr., and Mrs. Ernest Cox as co-hostesses. The new officers were install, ed, as follows: President, Mrs. Odus Young; Vice-President, Mrs. I. O. Ray; Secretary- treasurer, Mrs. Allen Young. An interesting program was given by members on “My Ole presented the Sweetheart of Big- Fashion Garden,’’ after which a social hour was enjoyed. W. S.C. S. To Meet In Laurens The annual district meeting of the Greenwood Woman’s So ciety of Christian Service will be held at the First Methodist Church in Laurens on Friday, May 10. Registration will begin at 9:80 a. m. and the morning session opening at 10 o’clock. Price for lunch will be $1 and should accompany reservations made before May 6. The admission price of 31.50 includes the homes tour and the silver "exhibit. -Ttckcta -may-ba- - purchased at any of the homes on the day of the tour or from Mrs. J. B. Hart of Clinton. Proceeds from this project will be used in furthering other his torical purposes of the com mittee. The homes to bs shown are the A. D. Oliphant home at 107 James Street, the Harry Haynsworth home on the old Buncombe Road, the Romayne Barnes home at 412 Crescent Avenue, and the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Norwood on the Pelham’ Road. The silver ex hibit will be at Mrs. Oliphant’s and tea will be served at one of the other homes. Members of the Colonial Dames wil serve as hostesses and guests. Kadoka District Gets Camp Material Camp booklets are being dis tributed this week to Camp Fire members in the Kadoka Dis trict, according to Mrs. Carolyn Davidson, camp director. The fourth annual camp is scheduled for June 2 through June 8 at Camp York, Kings Mountain. On Friday night the girls had the choice of attending a movie, a recital, or a play. Sat urday they toured the campus and enjoyed a variety show. On Sunday they attended church. The seniors recently elected four speakers for Class Day. Lawyer is Hayne Workman. Hayne is in the Block “C” Club and on the Sentinel staff. For his work as business manager of the paper he will receive an Old English “C.” Lynne Thomason, who is class historian, is also eligible for an Old English “C” for her work as literary editor of the Clintonian. .Jennie Rae Surratt, class poet, is secretary of the senior class. She, too, has earned an Old Eng- lisb “C” -by. serving gg typ<«* for the Clintonian. Class prophet is Tommy Jen kins.
