Miss Effie Lou Godfrey is visiting her brother and sister- in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Truman Godfrey in Greenville. Mr. and Mrs.’Carl Phillips and children of Charlotte, N. C. spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Phillips. Friends of Mr. and Mrs. J. Clyde Young will be interested to know their niece, Miss Gwendlyn Richey of Abbeville and a fresh man at Erskine College, Due West, has been chosen as the new “Miss Abbeville.” College students at home for the weekend Included Maxie Brown, Leonard Price, and Clark Surratt. Miss Ruth Hair was a Friday overnight guest of her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Hair of Columbia. Miss Fredna Ross of Williams burg, Va. spent several days with her grandmother, Mrs. Willie O’Dell and other relatives last week. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Jacks, Becky Campbell and Wayne Jacks visited Mr. and Mrs. W. H. McCary in Greenwood Sun day. The District Director of Intern al Revenue pointed out that: (1) If your gross income from agricultural self-employment is not more than $1,800, you may count as your net farm earnings either your actual net or two- thirds of your farm gross in come; (2) If your gross farm income is more than $1,800, and your net farm earnings are less than $1,- 200, you may use either your ac tual net or $1,200; If your gross farm income is S ore than $1,800,and your net rm earnings are $1,200 or more you may use the actual amount of your net earnings. Miss Pressly added that use of I the option enables farmers with gross income as low as $600 to [obtain social security protection j for themsel\jis in their old age, if jthey become disabled, before that [time, and for their survivors in j the event of untimely death. She emphasized, however, that re gardless of the way in which you figure your net earnings, you hust have net earnings of at east $400 (from farming alone, or in connection with other self- employment earnings) to get so cial security credit for the year. Some farm owners who receive rent, or crop shares from ant farmers can get social se curity credit for such income. If farm landlord (or his agent), ader his agreement with his enant, materially participate in production or management ^f production of the farm crops ised on his land, this income ay be creditable for social se- |urity purposes and subject to social security tax. The public is invited to attend these services. , PRAYER MEETINGS Tonight (Thursday) at 7 p. m. the WMS circles are sponsoring simultaneous prayer meetings for the coming Spring Revival at First Baptist Church. All fnembers are urged to attend one of these meetings to be held at the following homes: Mr. and Mrs. Ferrell Long, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Bates, Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Murrah, Sr. Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Francis, and Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Gardner. IN HOSPITAL Ronnie Sineath is still in ser ious condition in Greenville Gen eral Hospital following a recent wreck.
