Also taking part on the pro gram were Mrs. Richard Ulrich, center, and Mrs. Mar ion Lawson, right. * Joanna Girl Scouts Have Family Night Mrs. G. W. Landis, of Ninety- Six, executive director of the Star Fort Girl Scout Council, was guest speaker at the annual “family night” of the Joanna Girl Scouts on Monday evening at 6 o’clock. Girl Scouts, com mitteemen, leaders, parents spon sors, and guests met at Joanna Club House for a covered dish supper served by the Scouts and a group of the Scout mothers. In her talk, Mrs. Landis ex plained the proposed Council ex pansion which will be completed by September of this year. The present Star Fort Council, com posed of Abbeville, Greenwood, and Laurens Counties, will be given the new name of “Old Ninety-Six Council” and will in clude additional counties o f Greenville, Pickens, Oconee, and parts of Anderson, with Council headquarters at Greenville. According to Mrs. Landis, the three-age level of Girl Scouting will be changed to a four-age level. Brownies will serve girls 4, 7 and 8 years of age; Juniors will include girls 0, 10, and 11; Cadets wil include girls 12, 13, and 14; Seniors will cover the age group 15,16,17 and 18. Mrs. Landis was enthusiastic about the work covered bythe Joanna Scouts in the past and the op portunities offered in the new set up. She expressed the hope that several of the local girls would strive for the Curved .Bar Award prior to thev acation so they may attend the last scheduled Curved Bar Tea to be given with the first lady of the State as hostess. Mrs. 1 Hindis said the annual tea will be discontinued after this year. The speaker urged a high percentage attendance at Camp Cherokee this summer for their period of open air activities and training. Louis Murphy gave the invo- cation, and Mrs. Marion Law- son, Neighborhood Chairman, welcomed the guests. Recognis ed were members of the sponsor ing committee, Mrs. Louis Mur phy, Mrs. Corinne Phillips, and County Airport Expansion Sought Expansion of airport facilities at Laurens to permit the con struction of a second runway and other development of the airport by the South Carolina Aeronau tics Commission is being sought by members of the Laurens County Legislative Delegation in the South Carolina General As sembly. A bill was introduced last week by Senator King Dixon which would permit the county to deed an additional 100 acres to the present airport property. The ac tion would help bring the air port up to minimum require ments and would make the county eligible to get state and federal money available for air port dveelopment. "Our Town" Runs Through March 18 The Greenwood Little Theater will present “Our Town” on March 14 through March 18. There will be no performances on Sunday evening, March 17. The Thornton Wilder classic, a winner of the Pulitzer Prize, will be given at 8:00 p. m. Telephone reservations are available by calling OR SHieU. Messrs. W. K. She is a member of the Juliette Low Region 6 Commit tee, which is a volunteer commit tee of the national organization of Scouting. Mrs. Ulrich is a recent newcomer to Clinton, her husband being connected with Presbyterian Colege. Mr. and Mrs. John Holland Hunter, Clinton, of the publicity committee, were special guests. CHS Announces '63 Baseball Schedule Clintori High School vyll open its ld63 baseball season with a practice game against Presby terian College on March 15 at 4 p. m f Fourteen games are schedul ed for regular season play. All but four are conference en gagements. James Cox will coach the Red Devil Squad. Returning seniors on the team-will be Gary Goss, Scooter Holconxbe, Bill Craw ford, Effie Le&is, Ricky Corley, Dickie Watts, Freddie Whitman, and Phil Rogers. Corley, Watts and Mike Os borne, a sophomore, will occupy the mound position. All three are south paws. On the hitting side will be Gary Goss and Phil Rogers. Friday. May 3 Newberry, here. John C. Oeland Spantanburg — Funeral serv ices for John C. Oeland, 86, who died Friday, were conducted Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church by Dr. Marc Weersing. burial was in Nazareth Presbyterian Church cemetery. He was a native of Spartan burg where he attended First Presbyterian Church and Wof ford College. He was a son of the late Dr. John C. and Mrs. Ida Moore Oeland. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. J. G. Galbraith of Spartanburg; two brothers. James M. Oeland of Clinton and R. W. Oeland of Houston. Texas. County Mod Three Forest Fires In Jon. There were three forest fires in Laurens County in January, according to announcement by the South Carolina State Com mission of Forestry. The three fires burned a total of 37.0 acres, or 12.3 acres per fire, State Forester Charles Flo- ry said, as he urged Laurens County residents to be careful concerning woods fires. Bell Sreef School Club Performance Bell Street High School’s Dra matic Club will give its annual performance on Monday, March 16 at 8 p. m. in the school audi torium. The main attraction will be a supernatural play, “The Open ing of a Door”. Performers in the various pro grams include: Alexander McMath, Joe Adams, Erskine Lindsay, Wil liam Hill, Mary F.
