South Carolina contributed a few blueberries during May and June, but local shipments ac counted for less than 1 per cent of the total. The only commercial planting we know of in South Carolina is about 3 miles west of Loris. Brooks and Boyd Whittington, brothers, have about 25 acres planted to Northern High bush varieties, according to informa tion by V. M. Johnston, county agent, Conway. “The Whittingtons seem to be well satisfied with their new crop,” Johnston told me this week. “I am rather enthusiastic about the prospects for them.” Johnston says the berries are marketed in pint “cups” and packed 12 pints to a crate, “simi- ar to the way strawberries are packed.” Laste year, the brothers mar keted their berries through the North Carolina Blueberry Asso ciation, Burgaw, N.
