Mr. and Mrs. Rudy McCarthy and children of Aiken, spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. McCarthy. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Smith and daughter of Jacksonville, Fla., joined Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Lewis, Mr. and Mrs. G. S. Lewis and attended the funeral of O. R. Willingham in Brevard, N. C., on Saturday. T/Sgt. and Mrs. Virlyn Daven port and children of Savannah, Ga., spent the week-end here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Davenport, Sr. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Willing ham of Winnsboro, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Williamham and child ren of Rock Hill, spent the week end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F/ McCarty and Mrs. E. All of us heed protection against the loss of earnings that comes with disability, retire ment, or death. The farm em ployee gets this protection be cause YOU, if you are a farm employer, report his earnings v once a year/ and pay the social security taxes on his cash wages. Only through correct and regular reporting can the farm worker obtain this protection. Actually, failure by a farm em ployer to make a yearly report .is a violation of the law and can result in penalties and interest charges on unpaid social secur ity taxes. Farm employer's or owners who have paid as much as $150 in cash wages to any farm worker in their employ during 1962 must file an employer’s tax and infor mation return for such farm em ployees. They must also report each term employee who worked for them on 20 or more days during 1962, regardless of the amount of wages paid, if the wages were figured on a time rather than a piece-rate basis. for 1962, the social security tax rate is six and two-eights per cent (three and one-eighth per cent each for employer and em ployee). This tax applies to cash wages paid to a farm worker up to a total of $4,800 in the year. * The tax amount must be entered on Form 943 (Employer’s Annual Tax Return for Agricultural Em ployees) together with the total amount of cash wages paid to] the farm worker. This form must be filed with the District Director of Internal Revenue in Columbia on ro before January 31, 1963. Don’t let the deadline catch • you. If you have employees ' whose earnings must be report ed, do it as soon as passohle. You’ll be doing both yourself and , your employees a favor. BIRTHDAY PaAtY ENJOYED On Saturday, January If, at her home on Sims Street, Sandra Floyd was honored with a birth day party. Twelve of her friends were present to help celebrate her 7th birthday. The party decorations were blue and yellow. Centering the table was the cake holding seven candles. .. , Games were enjoyed #hd re freshments of/bot dogs, cake, and pink lemonade were served by the hostesses, Mary Ann Floyd and Betty Jean Johnson. , Sandra received many nice gifts. ___ RECENT BRIDE HONORED Mrs. Patrick Summer, a recent bride, was honored with a mis cellaneous shower at the home of Mrs. Calvin Morris in Newber ry Saturday evening, January 26, at 7:30. ' Mrs. Summer was presented a corsage of white carnations by the hostess. Gifts were placed in a box attractively decorated in red and white brside the bride’s chair. Gams and contests were en joyed, with prises awarded to the hoooree. „ » Refreshments of sandwiches, chips, pickles, cake and unch were served by the hostess, Mrs. Morris.
