Mrs. J. B. Hart gave the opening devotional. During the business meeting, presided over by Mrs. James Macdonald, announcement was gnade of the College Workers Con ference for the diocese of Upper South Carolina, which will be held at All Saints on October 11. The church will be host to the group for lunch. Members of the com mittee on arrangements are Mrs Hart, Mrs. Macdonald and Mrs E. N. Sullivan. On October 9th members are to meet for a house cleaning pro ject at 9:30 at the Parrish House? Mrs. George Saunders announ ced a plan for a United Thank Offering Ingathering at a service of Holy Communion at 10 a. m. on October 17. Mrs. A. B. Stump was appoint ed chairman of a propect to se cure a piano for the church school. New Officers Preside At Book Club Meet New officers presided on Mon day afternoon of the past week at the first fall meeting of the “Mel- ligram” Book Club. The group met at the home of Mrs. R. M. Fuller. Prettily arranged In the re ceiving rooms of the hostess’ home were roses and chrysanthe mums in pastel tints. “Women In the White House’’ is the topic for the year and Mrs. James Neal presented the program on Martha Washington. New officers are Mrs. Edward Ferguson, president; Mrs. Hugh S. Jacobs, vice-president; Mrs. Neal, secretary; and Mrs. Reese H. Young, treasurer. Geography of Russia Club Program Topic At the home of Mrs. Thorn- well Dunlap members of the Wednesday Study Club last week held their first meeting of the fall season. Pink dahlias in artistic array decorated the rooms where guests were received. Mrs. R. E. Sadler, new presi dent, presided, and Mrs. R. C. Adair, chairman, gave a report from the program committee. The group had selected Rus sia as the topic of study and Mrs. J. B. Hart was in charge of the afternoon’s program dealing with the geography of that country. She pointed out that officially the country is the Union of Soviet Socialistic Re publics and used a map to il lustrate the vastness of the ter ritory and the various countries of which it is made up. A salad course, cookies and coffee were served later n the afternoon. MISS SARAH EDITH HODGES PLANS DECEMBER WEDDING Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. Hodges of Marion, announce the engage ment of their daughter, Sara Edith, to Robert Adair Horton of this city. Mr. Horton is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Earl Horton of 600 E. Ferguson Street. The wedding is planned for De cember 22 in the Marion Baptist Church. The bride-elect was graduated from the Marion High School and from Furman University magna cum laude. While at Furman she was a member of “Hand and Torch,” honorary scholastic or ganization, and the University Band. Since graduation from col lege Miss Hodges has taught Former Resident Is Married In Greenville Miss Betty Jo Chitwood and Charles Francis Ambrose were married September 29 in Green ville. After next Sunday they will be at home at 9-D McDaniel Heights Apartments. Mrs. Am brose, daughter of Mr. and Mrs James Olin Chitwood of Route 2, Laurens, is a graduate of Clinton High School and is a secretary for Canal Insurance Co. and Central Realty Corp. Mr. Ambrose is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose of St. Charles, Mo. He is employed by Textile Sup ply Co., having received a bach elor’s degree in business admin istration from the University of Georgia.
