Niver, Jr, of Joanna announce the engage ment of their daughter Mary Elinor to Thomas Madison De Young, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin N. DeYoung of Clinton. The wedding will take place September 1. Oelonds, Campbells Entertain Visitors Honoring those receiving hon orary degrees at the Presbyterian College Commencement exer cises, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Qe- land, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Campbell entertained on the Oe- lands lawn Saturday evening with a drop-in. Families and friends of the honorees wer eln- vited and about 100 guests called during the evening. Assisting in entertaining were Mr. and Mrs. Edward Ferguson, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Jacobs, Mr. and Mrs. Robert M. Vance, Dr. and Mrs. Marshall W. Brown, Mr. and Mrs. William F. Holder- man, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Stall- worth, Mrs. William P. Jacobs, and Mrs. Walter Johnson. Silver containers were used on the dark green cloth for the buf fet refreshment table which was centered with magnolia foliage and blossoms. Punch and coffee were served from either end of the table by Mrs. R. E. Martin and Mrs. Harry Nettles. A ceremony at the First Pres byterian Church Saturday after noon, June 2, at four o’clock unit ed Miss Carolyn Brendle Hender son and Robert Thomas Hollings worth, both of Cross Hill. The bride is the daughter of Lt. Col. and Mrs. Lykes Henderson, and the groom's parents are J. T. Hollingsworth and the late Mary Griffin Hollingsworth. The officiating clergyman was Dr. William Redd Turner, who was assisted by Rev. Roy W. Coker. A program of wedding music was presented by Mrs. T. Heath Copeland, organist, and Harry Bolick, soloist. Given in marriage by her fath er, the bride had as her maid of honor her sister. Miss Irene Hen derson. She was attended by Misses Julie Bolick and Lena Copeland of this city, Nancy Jones of Durham, N. C., and Mary Joyce Moyer of Duke Uni versity, Durham, cousins, and Miss Gerry Owen of Clemson. Mr. Hollingsworth was best man for his son, and ushers in cluded the groom’s brothers-in- law, John Adair of Cross Hill, John Henry Rogers of Columbia, also Lykes Henderson, brother of the bride of Cross Hill, Jake Rasor of Furman University and Cross Hill, and Olen Rose of Manning. MISS JANE ANNE DAVIS August Wedding Planned Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Randolph Davis announce the engage ment of their daughter, Jane Anne, to James Roy Gasqne, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Roy Casque of Clinton. The wedding is planned for August. 1 Club Members Enjoy Outing For the last meeting of the cur rent year the Carolina Wren Gar den Club held a picnic at the cottage of Mrs. J. C. Thomas on Lake Greenwood. After a short business session members enjoyed an informal hour and the picnic super. Dec orating the cottage were clipped pine and native greens and a colorful bouquet of wild flowers for the supper table. The bride was lovely in her formal wedding gown of pure silk organza and hand clipped Chan tilly lace. The top of the fitted bodice was made of lace etched in sequins with a scalloped cam eo neckline and long lace sleeves ending in points over the hands. A wide insert of lace edged in a self scallop and trimmed with small cabbage roses enhanced the bouffant skirt which extended into a chapel train. Her bouffant veil of English illusion was softly gathered from a pure silk organ za cabbage rose trimmed in pearls. She carried a bouquet of white roses centered with a white orchid. The maid of honor and other attendants wore a street length dress of pure silk organza and Chantilly lace over taffeta. The fitted lace bodice had a scoop neckline and short sleeves. The full circular skirt of organza was finished at center back waist with two cabbage roses above a row of ruffles through hemline. They wore matching headpieces of two silk organza roses with a back pouf veil and carried bou quets of pink carnations. Immediately following the cere mony the bride’s parents enter tained with a reception in the so cial hall of the church. For her wedding trip to Day tona Beach and Miami, Fla., the bride changed to a blue summer suit with bone accessories. After June 10 they will be at home on Lake Greenwood. The bride received her educa tion in schools here and abroad while her father was serving in the army. She was graduated from S. D. Lee High School in Columbus, Miss., and attended Winthrop College, Rock Hill. The groom is a graduate of Clinton High School and Clemson Col lege with a B.S. degree in agri culture. Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs Elliott of 2006 Thomas Ave. in Charlotte, took their wedding vows Sunday in a ceremony at 4 p. m. at Waterloo Methodist Church. Rev. Gene Austin Norris offi ciated at the service. The bride is a graduate of Laurens High School and Win throp College, where she received a B.A. degree in biology May 27. The groom is a graduate of Central High School in Charlotte. He earned B. S. and M. S. de grees in applied mathematics at North Carolina State College. He is employed by Douglas Aircraft Co. in Charlotte. On their return June 11 from a trip through the mountains the couple will live at 8201 Green- brook Drive in Charlotte. Mr. Clark gave his daughter in marriage. Her sister, Miss Eve lyn Otark of Oak Ridge, Tenn., was maid of honor, and Mrs. Niles Craig Clark, Jr. of Fort Benning, Ga., was matron of honor. Also attending the bride were a sister of the groom, Mrs. Gerald Miner McIntosh of Al bany, N. Y., and Miss Mary Locke Simons of this city, her cousin. The groom's father served as best man. Ushers were 1st Lt. Niles Craig Clark, Jr. of Fort Benning, brother of the bride; Winfred Joseph Potter and Wat son Lae Burts of Charlotte. Flower girls were Deborah Ann Smith and Lorene Gay-Ann Goodman of Charlotte. Ring bearers were Niles Craig Calrk III and Thomas Amis Clark of Fort Benning. Mrs. Clark had designed and made her daughter’s princess- style dress of peau de sole and Alencon lace, which featured a simple scoop neckline and a flowing skirt. Lace was reem broidered with pearls to adorn the bodice and skirt. A pouf bow above the chapel train was also high-lighted by tne pearl-em- boridered lace. A crown of or ange blossoms held her fingertip veil, and an orchid centered her bouquet of gardenias. The attendants wore pale blue chiffon over tafetta made with draped scooped necklines and pleated skirts. .They carried bou quets of yellow carnations. A three course breakfast was served with the bridal party seated «( a table overlaid with a green organdy cover and cen tered with an epergne of pink roses and gypaophalia. Other guests were seated at smaller tables also overlaid in green or gandy and with small bouquets of the same flowers. Place cards were in a wedding motif. Rose, Man ning Entertain Mothers At Tea Wednesday The Okizu Camp Fire girls assisted by their leaders. Mrs Leonard Bishop and Mrs. Mur- phey Timmerman entertained their mothers with an informal tea on Wednesday afternoon of the past week at the Camp Fire Hut. Jennie Edwards welcomed the guests. Highlights of the year’s activities were told by Kathryn Arnold, Rita Johnson, Sharon Plaxico and Camellia Renwick. These included a long hike on which they carried a trail lunch, a trip to Charleston and an over night camping trip, and viait to the city hall and police station. The group sang a number of songs and taking part In a can- dlalighting and extinguishing ceremony were Lee Davis, Kathy Bouknight, Thonda Mills, Valerie Simmons and Neely Copeland. Mrs. Bishop presented the girls with beads earned during the year, and the group presented a gift to Toni Scheele who will be leaving Clinton during the sum mer to make her home else where. Hostesses for the tea were Me lissa Turner, Sara Lynn Wysor, Toni, Libby Bishop, Sophie Young and Jane Timmerman The tea table from which punch and cookies were served was centered with a lovely silver bowl filled with mixed summer flowers in shades of pink. Young Group Enjoys Party at Lake Cottage Honoring a group of their classmates of the Clinton High School graduating class Bunky Blalock and Mott Shealy enter tained with a buffet supper and informal party on Wednesday evening of the past week at the Blalock’s lakesids cottags. Ac companying the young psopls were the hosts’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Blalock, Mr. and Mrs. Wilmot Shealy. The class colors were carried and on the supper table on the porch were red carnations and pom poms in graduating caps.
