Mrs. Alice Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher Harrison and daughter, Faye, of Greenwood, were Sunday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Brown. Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Brown. Mrs. Dollie Carr is out again after several weeks illness. S-Sgt. Kenneth R. Chalk, who is stationed at Shaw Air Force Base, Sumter, spent the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. TV R. Chalk. Rev. and Mrs. Hugh Pollard are attending the General As- s e m b 1 y of the Presbyterian Church which is being held in Winston-Salem, N. C., May 10 through the 15th. Mrs. Woodrow Caughorn formerly of Columbus, Ga., is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Couch. Mr. Caug horn will complete his tour of duty in the service next week and will join Mrs. Caughorn They will reside for the present with Mr. and Mrs. Couch. Kenneth Buchanan and daugh ter, Lou Ann, of Jacksonville Fla., spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Buchanan Little Candy, who had been vis iting here, returned home with them. Bowers, Jr., and Jan, were Sunday din ner guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Bowers, Sr., in Laurens. Little Vickie Brown, who re ceived severe burns and was hospitalized for several weeks, is convalescing at home. Before leaving the hospital she cele brated a birthday and was pre sented a beautiful cake and many nice gifts. RECENT BRIDE HONORED On Saturday afternoon Mrs. Eddie Norris, a recent bride, was honored with a miscellan eous shower at the Joanna club house. Beautiful flower arrange ments adorned the party rooms. Hostesses for the occasion in cluded Mrs. Blanche Marshall, Mrs. Judy Russ, Mrs. Frances Norris, Mrs. Mildred Norris and Miss Sue Thomas. Party games in the bridal motif were directed by Miss Thomas. Refreshments served by the group consisted of a sand wich plate, apple pie a la mode and punch. The honoree was showered with may nice and useful gifts for her new home. Roger Poode, son of Mr.,end Mrs. Robert E. Poore of Joanna, has been appointed legal assistance officer for the Pacific Transportation Terminal Command Headquarters at Fort Mason, Calif. He was graduated from Fur man University in 1908 and re ceived an ROTC commission. He received a law degree from Duke University in 1901 and practiced law in Atlanta before entering active duty in the Army last November . On Law Day, USA, May 1, Lt. Poore addressed all the troops at Fort Mason. WITH THE SICK Mrs. Edna Ballard has been discharged from the local hos pital following treatment. Mrs. Ruby Chappell of New berry, is a surgical patient at the local hospital. BRIDE-ELECT HONORED Miss Brenda Chandler, June bride-elect, was complimented Saturday evening with a miscel laneous shower at the the Joan na dub house. Decorations were green and white. Franklin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Franklin at Rt 1, Clin ton. The wedding will take place June 2 at Epworth Methodist Church in Joanna. SLUMBER PARTY Friday night the Joanna Girt Scouts of Troop 36 enjoyed a slumber party at the club house. Mrs. Kathleen League, leader at the troop, and Mrs. Maurice Davenport chaperoned the group. Before retiring the girls enjoyed dancing to the record player and a bedtime snack. PRESBYTERIAN YOUTH HAS OUTING The youth group of the First Presbyterian Church, Joanna, along with the Rev. and Mrs. Hugh Poilard, Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Davenport, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Welchel enjoyed an outtlng and cookout recently at the cottage of Mr. and Mrs. Welchel on Lake Murray. The group enjoyed fishing boating, swimming, a fish fry and weinsr roast. KITCHEN SHOWER On Tuesday evening of last week a group of friends from Joanna gathered at the home of Mrs. Fate Arnold in Clinton and honored her with a kitchen shower. Hostesses for the occasion in cluded Mrs. Eugenia Gunter, Mrs. Lois McGuirt, Mrs. Louise Wright, Mrs. Mozeil Evans, Mrs. Ruby Bennett, and Mrs. Joy Abrams.
