Thursday, April 12, 1962 THE CLINTON CHEONKXE Social Events and Chib News of Interest Telephone *23-0541 Party Honors Seniors And Guests at Boxwood Gardens Honoring the eleven members of the Thorawell School graduat ing class and their guests Mrs. C. M. Bailey and Mrs. W. L. Mar shall, Jr., entertained with a din ner party on Friday evening at their home Boxwood Gardens. Dinner was served in buffet style in the dining room where the table was beautifully appointed with yellow snap dragons and pom pons with an accent of pur ple statice. These were arranged in a silver bowl and flanked by silver candlebra holding yellow tapers. Thorughout the receiving rooms were tables were laid for the guests decorations were in keeping with the Easter season. Places were laid at a large table on the porch, overlaid with a pink linen cover and centered with an Easier basket of flowers and at smaller tables where mini- ture baskets of flowers marked each place and pastel linen cov ers were used. Other guests for the occasion were Dr. and M. A. MacDonald, Miss Inez Tucker, Mrs. Dean Hartley, George Hammond, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Fakkema. Mr. Fakkema directed the entertain ment of games and party skits. Dunbor-Dusenberry Engagement Told Claude Rhodes Dunbar of Spartanburg, announces that his daughtre, Mary Christine, will be married to James Franklin Dusenberry, Jr., June 23 at the First Baptsti Churuch, Spartan burg. Miss Dunbar, daughter of the late Mrs. Josie Pressly Dunbar, is the granddaughter of Mrs. Bon ner Grier Pressly and the late Rev. Pressly of Due West. Her mother was at one time a mem ber of the Clinton schools faculty. She attended Erskine College two years, then transferred to the Uni versity of South Carolina. She will be graduated in June with a B.A in education. Mr. Dunsenberry is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Dusenberry of Lau rens. A graduate of Laurens High School, he attended Davidson Col lege and then Erskine College, where he was graduated with a B.S. degree in science. He is a sophomore at the Medical Col lege of South Carolina. Century Club To Meet April 17th The Century Club will Meet Tuesday afternoon, April 17, at 4 o’clock at the home of Mrs. Ed ward Campbell. The wedding will take place la Jaly. Confederate Women Spies Discussed At U. D. C. Meeting An interesting program on famous women spies of the Con federacy was given at the April meeting of the Stephen D. Lee Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy. Mrs. A. A. Ramage, Jr., was hostess to the group with Mrs. J. A. Davis, Mrs. M. L. Robertson and Mrs. G. A Burton assisting her Mrs. Frank Miller was pro gram chairman and she gave a review of U» book, “Smiling Rebel,” which told of the life and spying activities of Belie Boyd during the War Between the States. A social hour was enjoyed by the twenty-eight members attend ing. Refreshments of sandwiches, party dainties, cakes and tea Car rie dout an Easter motif. Mrs. Lewis Hay To Head Music Club Mrs. Lewis Hay was elected to srve as president of the Clinton Music Club for the coming year. Announcement of the new officers was made by Mrs. Henderson Pitts, chairman of the nominating committee, at the club meeting bald last Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. W. W. Harris. Others elected to serve with Mrs. Hay were: Mrs. E. A. Par nell, vice-president; Mrs. J. A. Orr, secretary; and Mrs. Thomas Taylor, treasurer. Presiding over the business ses sion was Mrs. Grace Connor, president. Mrs. FarneU repotted on {dans for the Mad Hatters tea. Mrs. Orr gave the background on the Hymn of the Month, “Oh Sons and Daughters Let Us Sing.” The hymn was sung by the choral group, who had charge of the Ap ril program. The sextette, com posed of Mrs. Ed Sadler, Mrs. Connor, Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. Pitts, Mrs. J. D. McKee, and Mrs. Heath Copeland nad directed by Mrs. Sadler, was accompanied by Miss Luva McDonald at the piano. The group sang selections and solos were rendered by Mrs Sadler, Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Mc Kee. Miss McDonald played sev eral Schubert waltzes. Later in the afternoon guests were invited into the dining room where refreshments, party dain ties, cookies and punch were serv ed in buffet style. Centering the tabl was an epergne with flower- ettes of violets, hyacinths and pink azaleas. Entertains Club With Dessert Bridge On Wednesday afternoon of the past week Mrs. Murphy Timmer man entertained members of her card club with a dessert bridge. In a setting of camellias, pan sies, iris and jonquils, two tables were appointed for a. sweet course. A number of progressions were enjoyed with score awards going to Mrs. C. E. Joeebs. -I ■ "United Nations" Topic For Program Mrs. Ralph WUson of Laurens, was the guest speaker for a joint meeting of the Womna’s Society of Christian Service and the Wesleyan Service Guild on Mon day evening at Broad Street Methodist Church. Mrs. R. H. Dawson led the de votional, and Mrs. L. H. David son, program chairman, intro duced Mrs. Wilson. Mrs. Wilson talked on the United Nations, citing some of the accomplish ments, what it Is, how It works, points for and against the or ganization. At the close of the meeting a special thank offering was taken. Wicoma CF Group Entertains at Tea On Saturday girls of the Wi- cama Camp Fire group gave a tea honoring apodal friends of the members at the Camp Fire Hut. The girts wore dressed in cos tume of the three phases of the organisation. Blue Bird, Camp Fire, Horizon Chib, and gave a program showing the progres sion of ranks. The girls prepared and served refreshments. Miss Margaret Blakely is lead er the group which is currently working on the Fire Maker rank. Mrs. Connor Invited Into Honor Society Mrs. Grace L. Connor was in itiated on Saturday, April 7, into the Delta Gamma Honor Society International by Alpha Eta Chap ter at its twenty-fourth state conveitton in Columbia. The initiation ceremony took place at the Presidents’ and Founders banquet at the Hotel Columbia with a reception following in hon or of the pledges. Mrs. Connor WAA Pledged byjhe Epsilon Chap- Marriage vows of Miss Patsy Juanita Wilkie and Charles Pres ton Copeland, both of this city, were spoken on Friday afternoon April 6 at 5:30. The ceremony took place at the Caldwell Street home of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Pitte, sitter and brother-in-law of the groom. The double ring marriage serv ice was performed by The Rev. J. B. Abercrombie in the presence of the immediate families of the couple. For the rites the bride and groom entered together, unattend ed. The bride wore a white street ingth dress fashioned with round ed neck, tucks and a lace panel down the front. She wore crystal earrnigs and bracelet. A crystal and pearl headpiece held her el bow length veil and she carried a white satin covered Bible with a white glamellla, showered with pink sweetheart roees and satin ribbons. Gladioli, gypsophalia and ca mellias in pink and white were arranged as a setting for the wed ding. The young couple was married on the 28th wedding anniversary of the groom’s parents. Immediately following the cere mony a reception was held at the Pitts home. White net overlaid the linen cut work cloth on the bride’s table which held the three tiered wedding cake and silver candla- bra entwined with camellias and tulle. For a wedding trip to Charles ton the bride changed to a light green spring suit with matching accessories and black patent shoes. They are at home with the grooms parents, Mr. and Mrs Edgar Copeland on the Laurens Highway. The bride and groom are both Clinton High School graduates She attended Presbyterian Col lege, where she is now employed as a secretary. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Wilkie of Cross Hill. The groom holds a po sition with the Clinton Bearings Plant of the Torrington Company. Installation O. E. S.
