Leake, Miss Ruth Bailey and Miss Margaret Blake ly were joint hostesses for the November meeting of the Caro- Jina Wren Garden Club on Mon day afternoon at the home of Mrs. Leake. Mrs. Fred Hol combe, president, presided. An interesting program on holi day arrangements was given by Mrs. Gary Holcombe and Mrs. Fred Holcombe. Used in decora tion for the home were the ar rangements which they had brought. These and other Christ mas ideas were discussed. Mrs. W. C. Baldwin also contributed an arrangment for the program. The group planned the decoration for a public building in Clinton, a Christmas project they are do ing in cooperation with other clubs. Late in the afternoon the host esses served a salad plate Gordenette Members Give Holiday Ideas At the November meeting, members of the Gardenettes Club brought Christmas arrangements to be viewed and discussed and they also exchanged other holi day ideas. The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Lynn Cooper, Jr., with Mrs. Kenneth Mills assisting as hostess. In addition to the holi day adornments a colorful au tumn arrangement decorated the meeting room. Mrs. Dan Orr, president, pre sided over a short business ses sion. During the afternoon refresh ments were served by the host esses Staff Party Given For Local Residents The local staff of the United Insurance Company was enter tained with a pre-holiday party Saturday evening, December 2, at the home of assistant manag er, Joe Arsi and Mrs. Arsi in Laurens. Attending from Clinton were Mr. and Mrs. Roy F. O’Kelley, Mr. and Mrs. William Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. James Ammons, along with others of the staff from Newberry and Laurens. Holiday arrangements adorned the hall, living and dining rooms where the guests were entertained and served a buffet dinner. Episcopal Women Continue Bible Study Continuing the study of the book of Galatians, the women of AH Saints Episcopal Church heard an interesting talk by the Rev. John Rivers. Mr. Rivers dis cussed the 5th and 6th chapters and gave a brief summary of the book. The meeting was presided over by the president, Mrs. Michael Turner, who led in prayer. During the business session the group decided to contribute clothing to the Red Cross for needy families. Plans were made for services for the Christmas season:- a Christmas eve service at 11:30 p. m.: a family service at 11 o’clock on Christmas mor ning. The nursery was held for the monthly meeting and will be kept open for each session in the fu ture. The group was dismissed by the Auxiliary prayer. Drop-In Given at Lakeside Club Enjoyable among parties of the pre-holiday season was the lovely drop-in given Friday evening at Lakeside Country Club by Dr. and Mrs. R. M. Fuller, Dr. and Mrs. James Macdonald, Dr. and Mrs Judson A. Davis. Guests for the delightfully in formal affair included a number of newcomers and visitors in the city. Tall tapers in brass holders and berries interspersed the greenery which banked the man tels in the club rooms. Yellow chrysanthemums were beautiful ly arranged in the reception room. Refreshments were served in the dining room where the buffet table was centered with a crystal epergne filled with vari-colored grapes and fruits. The punch and coffee tables were appointed with evergreens, fruits and candles in brass candelabra. O'Kelleys Honored On Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Roy F. O’Kelley of Pinewood Avenue, were hon ored with a surprise anniversary dinner on Tuesday evening, Nov. 28, by Mr. and Mrs. Joe Arsi at their ho mein Laurens. Guests included in addition to those from Clinton a number of friends from Laurens and New berry. A beautifully embossed two-tier wedding cake centered the dinner table. Mr. and Mrs. O’Kelley were presented a gift. Entertain Employees ARP Women Have White Cross Program Christmas White Cross pro grams were presented bn Mon day for the meetings of the cir cles of the Woman's Missionary Society of the Associate Reform ed Presbyterian Church. Circle No. 1, Miss Margaret Blakely presiding, met at the With Company Party church in the afternoon. Mrs. John Carter was leader, with Employees of the Industrial Supply Company, their wives and husbands were entertained at a company dinner on Friday eve ning at Vernon’s. Appropriate background music was enjoyed during dinner and throughout the evening. R. Ed ward Ferguson spoke a few Mrs. A. B. Blakely, Mrs. George Watts Copeland and Mrs. R. L. Plaxico giving articles from the Synodical Journal. In the evening, circle No. 2 held its meeting at the church. Gifts were presented to the ladies. Lutheran Women In Christmas Meeting Mrs. A. C. Workman, Jr., en tertained members of the United Lutheran Church Women of St. John's Church for the Christmas meeting on Monday evening at her home on Young Drive. The home was beautifully dec orated in the holiday motif, and following the program gifts were exchanged and refreshments ser- ed. Mrs. L. P. Dailey was in charge of the program which was opened with prayer by Mrs. J. E. Boyce. Mrs. J. R. Reynolds conducted the devotional and others taking part on the pro gram on “The Gifts For Christ mas In Foreign Countries” were Mrs. R. H. Brown, Mrs. T. M. Sease, Mrs. Frank Boland, Mrs. O. C. Woodruff, Mrs. H. L. Shealy and Mrs. Nancy Miller. Mrs. Howard Smith Entertains Club Entertaining members of her card club, Mrs. Howard Smith was hostess for a dessert bridge With Mrs. Saunders A meeting of the Wednesday Bridge Club was held the past week at the home of Mrs. George Saunders on Magnolia Street in Joanna. Chrysanthemums and greenery made a pretty setting for the two tables in play during the after- on Wednesday afternoon of the noon. Score prise winners were past week. Two tables were appointed in the living room for refreshments when the guests assembled and later a number of progressions were enjoyed. Students To Present Christmas Music A musical program, “Silent Night Is Bom,” will be presented by the fifth and sixth grade stu dents at Hampton Avenue School on Thursday evening, December 14, at 7:30. The program, which will depict Austrian customs, is being di rected by Mrs. Grace Connor, public schools music teacher. The public is invited to attend this annual Christmas event. Wednesday Club Is Entertained Mrs. Pringle Copeland, Jr., was hostess last week to mem bers of her Wednesday Bridge Club at the home of Mrs. Pringle Copeland, Sr. Two tables were in play during the afternoon, and high scorer for the progressions was Mrs. Edward Ferguson.
