Clinton's most serious threat of the night came as soon as they received the ball on the opening kickoff. A pass from quarterback Gary Goss to David Spoone and an 18-yard jaunt by fullback Keith Stewart ied the Devils to the 24. where they were held by a hard-hitting North Augusta de fense The Jackets' first touchdown came minutes later as guard Andy Morgan picked up a fumble on the Clinton 21. The Jackets drove down on four plays as full back Gene Williams went over from the 4. North Augusta's next touch down came on a 80-yard drive in the second quarter Williams chalked up this tally also, as he bulled his way for five yards and the touchdown North Augusta's final score came just before the half on a 66-yard drive. Halfback Craig Baynham. who spearheaded the drive with a 35-yard jaunt, car ried the ball over from 6 inches out The extra point came on a run by halfback Sandy Smith The second half was a defen live battle in which neither team scored In the fourth quarter the Red Devils had a first down on the North Augusta 15. but were knocked backwards to the 25 by the strong Jacket defense Baynham, Williams, and Mike Smith stood out on offense for Christmas Tea At Newberry Slated Dec. 3 The Civic League of Newberry again this year will celebrate its annual traditional Christmas Tea at the Community Hall, on the public square, Wednesday after noon. December 6. beginning at three o’clock and continuing until nine This year something new has been added in that the Council of Garden Clubs of Newberry is decorating the exterior and the interior, first floor of the beau tiful, old limey country home of Mr and Mrs E. K Westwood This will be the first year that a Holiday House lias been part of the program, wltli the hours the same as that set for the, tea Visitors are asked to come to the public square for directions ! to reach the Westwood’s and they may visit the Christmas Tea either before or after enjoying the Holiday House. This year, for a change, there will be no lormal receiving line nor will there be any speeches The committee felt that doing away with these two features of former teas would give the visi- i tors more time to "socialize.” Out of town visitors are cordi ally invited Not only does this invitation extend to the Garden Clubs, but to all organizations, and individuals, who would en joy this dual event the Jackets North Augusta's en tire forward wall, led by senior guard Sonny Anderson, did a fine job of containing the Red Devils all night Keith Stewart and Kinard Ut- tleton led the Red Devil offense, which picked up 225 yards De fensively, David Spoone was a standout on the Devil forward wall Eflie 1-ewis played an out standing game as linebacker North Augusta scoring—TD's: Williams 2.
