M. Hughes, and Mr. Hughes here for the week-end. Also guests of the Hughes family on Sunday were her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. South, of Honea Path. Carroll Barnes of Elon College, N. C., visited his parents here* during the past week. Mrs. Ernest Chaney has gone to Law renceville and College Park, Ga , to spend some time with her daughter, Mrs. Seggnial Duncan, and her son, Frank Chaney, and their families. Her daughter. Mrs Leonard Bishop, and children accompanied her there for the week-end. Mrs. N. L Wessinger of New berry, spent the week-end with her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Carl Wessinger. Miss Louise Speake, student at Columbia College, Columbia, was at home for the week-end with her mother, Mrs. J B. Speake. Mr and Mrs Paul Martin and children of Columbia, were here during the week-end with her mother, Mrs. James M. Pitts, en- route to Seneca where they were called because of the death of the former s father, Sloan W. Martin Mrs. Ernest Chaney spent last week in Newberry with her grandson, Edward Lominack, who was recuperating from an operation illness. Major Elberta Sease, Army Nurses Corps, Fort Gordon. Ga . spent the week-end with her sis ter, Mrs. O. C. Woodruff. Gerald Woodruff, student at Newberry College, was also at home for the week-end Mr and Mrs l^onard Wilson spent the week-end at ' College Park, Ga . with their son. Wilson, student at Georgia Military Acad-, emy, College Park Ga., will be • interested to know he is improv ing at the Georgia Baptist Hos pital, Atlanta, following an ap pendeetomy there Tuesday. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. I^ronard M. Wilson, spent several days this week there with him. Little Jimmy Bryant, of Dar lington, is visiting his grandpa- rents, Mr. and Mrs, J. Karl Johnson. Also here during the week-end were his parents, Mr and Mrs Roy Bryant, and dau ghter, Laurie Mr and Mrs Bry ant were guests of her brother, Karl Johnson, Jr., and Mrs Johnson in Clemson, and attend ed the CJem son-Wake Forest game, while the children remain ed with their grandparents. Mrs. S. W. Sumerel is in Co lumbia this week with her dau ghter, Mrs Ervin L. Shook, and family. She will be with their < children while Mr and Mrs Shook go to Charleston on a busi ness trip HLL IMPROVING Friends of Jim Hill will be glad to know he is convalescing at home and is able to be out some after an operation illness and hospital stay. C. - ' AT CONVENTION MEET Mrs George R Blalock will return today after attending the sixth annual meeting of the Con verse College Alumnae council at the Block House, Tryon, N. C., yesterday, and a meeting today at the college in Spartanburg. LOSE SISTER Mrs. Willie Mae Shannon Reighley, 68, of Newberry, sister of Mrs. Mace Young and Mrs. Lewis Simpson of this city, pass ed away on Wednesday of the past week after a short illness. Mrs. Reighley, a native of New berry, was the widow of David Alan Reighley. Funeral services were held on Thursday and burial was in Rosemont cemetery. New berry.
