Mrs. John Gaskin, Mrs. Bu ford Wier and Mrs. Rudy Pra ter were Wednesday visitors last week of “Granny’' Crocker at Wallace Thompson Hospital in Union. Mrs. Crocker is the moth er of Mrs. Gaskin. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bragg and children, of Aiken, spent the week-end with his parents. Mr. and Mrs Fred Bragg, Sr. Mrs. J. L. Abrams and little Jan Abrams were Sunday visi tors in Whitmire of the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. L At- taway. Mr. and Mrs. I. V. Alexander and family were Sunday visitors of their daughter, Mrs. Jessie Webb and Mr. Webb in Clinton. Mr. and Mrs. Kelly Waits were overnight business visitors last week in Greensboro, N. C., and week-end visitors in Ashe- ville, N. C. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Franzen and son, Bobby, of Columbia, spent Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Franzen. Mrs. Gray Stroud, Kent, Me linda, Amelia, Clyde Croy, Jr., of Clinton, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Culclasure, of Newberry, visited Gray Stroud Sunday at the hos pital in Columbia. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. McCravy and son of Chester, were Sun day guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Thomas. Mrs. -Nancy Harris, of Clinton, is spending several days this week with the Thomas fam ily. Cadet John M. Cooley attend ed a school over the week-end at Palmetto Military Academy in Lexington. Mrs. James Simpson, Mrs. An nie Laura Simpson and George Wright accompanied Miss Nan nie Mae Glenn to her home in Forest City, N. C.;- Saturday. Mrs. Darnell is the former Miss Cleo Starnes. HOMECOMING AT EPWORTH Next Sunday, October 15, Homecoming will be held at Ep- worth Methodist Church in Jo anna. Bishop Paul Hardin will bring the morning message and dedicate the Educational Build ing. Dr. Brice Herbert,- district superintendent, will be present. Dinner will be served on the church grounds at 1:00 o'clock. All former members and pas tors, along with the church’s ac tive members are cordially in vited to attend. Rev. J. Herbert Thomas is pastor of the church. WITH THE SICK Miss Vicki Crowell is recup erating at home following an ap- pecdectomy at the local hospital. Bill Crawford has been dis charged from the local hospital where he received treatment. Mrs Etta Mae Morgan, of Clinton, is recuperating follow ing treatment at the local hos pital Marcia Hill, of Clinton, has been discharged from the local hospital following treatment. Rosemary Garrett, of Laur ens, is a patient at the local hos pital undergoing rteatment. Mrs. Ophelia Bobo, of Clinton, is recuperating at her home fol lowing treatment at the local hospital. Mrs. Willie Nell Jenkins is re cuperating at home following treatment at the local hospital. Mrs. Orrie Stockman is a pa tient at the local hospital for treatment. Jessie Owens has been dis charged from the local hospital where he underwent treatment. Miss Karen Surratt is a pa tient at the local hospital for treatment. Mrs. Willie O'Dell is a patient at the local hospital undergoing treatment. Little Dalton Boyce, of Clin ton, is a patient at the local hos pital for treatment. RECENT BRIDE HONORED On Saturday evening Mrs. Woodrow Caughorn, a recent bride, was complimented with a miscellaneous < shower at Joanna Club House. The party rooms were decorated with lovely mixed flower arrangements. Appro- priat party games and contests for the occasion were enjoyed. Hostesses were: Mrs. William Dunlap, Mrs. Ernest Smith, Mrs. Gene Bishop, Mrs. McNeal Trot ter, Mrs. Nancy Hunter, Mrs. Tom Wertz, Miss Lillie Mae Franklin, Mrs. Arthur League and Mrs. Ethel Johnson. Following entertainment the hostesses served refreshments consisting of a salad plate, cake squares and drinks. The hon- oree received a shower of useful gifts for her new home. Mrs. Caughorn is the former Miss Dixie Couch. Out-of-town guests included Mrs. Essie Reeves, Mrs. Carl Wood, Mrs. Jack Thomas and small son, Daniel, Mrs. Euclid Williams of Easley, and Mrs. Lanier Johnson of Laurens. PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH NEWS Next Sunday morning, October 15, at First Presbyterian Church in Joanna, the 100th anniversary of Southern Presbyterian church es will be observed. The morn ing message will be pertaining to the history of the church. Holy Communion will be served. Rev. Hugh Pollard is pastor of the church. YOUTH GROUP ELECTS OFFICERS The Youth Fellowship of First Presbyterian Church held their meeting Sunday evening to be gin their new Bible study, “The Most Challenging Life,” follow ing the lesson officers were elect ed. They are as follows: President, Wayne Hall; vice president, Miss Marie Moon; sec retary, Neal Hall; treasurer, Miss Margaret White; program chairman, Miss Linda Welchel; organist, Steve Senn; pianist, Miss Gaye Craven; social chair man, Max Holcombe. SMITH REUNION SUNDAY On Sunday around 75 descen dants of the John Thomas Smith family gathered at the picnic shelter in Joanna for their an nual family reunion. Mr. and Mrs. Jones Wallen- zine and Mr. and Mrs. Otis Smith, of Joanna, were the hosts families for the occasion. Rev. and Mrs. John W. War ren, pastor of Pentecostal Holi ness Church in Joanna, were special invited guests. Rev. War ren gave the invocation for the bountiful picnic dinner that was served.
