the •.luh. The Kev Hugh IF Pollard, pas^>r of the Jo
anna Presbyterian Church, received the annual plaque
awarded for '‘Citizen of the Year." and Wendell lla t
was chosen as "l.ion of the' Year."
Mr. Pollard came to Joanna four yea's ag r o from Yu
ginut, having served in pastorates in Illinois and \mfh
Carolina. He formerly was chaplain of the \ C. Civd
Air Patrol and the N C. Department of the Vmenean
Legion He served in the Fifth Air Force in the South
west Pacific for lit) months during World War II. He is a
graduate of Columhia Theological Seminary. Decatur.

Mr. Hair, industrial engineer with Joanna Cotton
Mills, at the left in the photo at light, is receiving his
plaque from Louie Nabors. Mr. Hair, son of Mrs. W. W.

keeps the members well informed on activities, gets re-

Work Underway On Widening And Straightening Highway 308 From City To Expressway Connections
The almve scenes show work in progress on Highway
from Clinton to its connection with the new four-
iane Highway 276 to Greenville. Also nearby is the con
nection with Interstate 26 to Columbia and Spartanburg.
The Greenville and Columbia routes have been open for
some time, but tbe route north to Spartanburg is not yet
open.
The Highw-ay 308 connections with the new routes
will be made more convenient for use from Clinton when
rebuilding of the approximately three miles is complet
ed. The work is being done by Hunter Brothers of Gray
