A game is scheduled for Thurs day afternoon at 3:30 with the Lydia Mill Giants. Conservation Notes By J. B. O'DELL, CMuerratlMtot John Earle Smith, whose farm is in the lower part of the county near Kinards, has just completed another farm pond for stock wa tering. This makes two such ponds for Mr. Smith. J. W. Tinsley has finished har vesting crimson clover seed. He is pleased with the way it turned out. Raymond Robertson is improv ing 20 acres of woodland this week‘by killing undesirable hard wood trees. He is using tree in jectors and spraying with 2, 4, 5, T. The Laurens Soil Conservation District is helping Mr. Robertson with this work. The district also recently assist ed R. L. Guinn and D. H. Sulli van with the same type of work. All of these woodland owmers re ceived ASC cost-sharing help of $5.00 per acre for carrying out this practice. John T. Young is getting ready to harvest wheat. He has a beau tiful crop, some of the best I’ve seen. Jim Crawford cut 20 acres of pretty sericea for hay last week. He got it cured and baled without any rain on it. He said, "One day of sunshine is all that I need to cure and bale sericea.” He plans to harvest a crop of seed from the field this fall. Jim likes the Idea of getting one cutting of hay and then a crop of seed. W. P. Hickson has a pretty field of cotton. He has it worked up good on a field that the district helped him terrace just before the cotton was planted. Of course it is planted on the contdUr. Toney B. Jackson, of Rock Hill, is making plans to plant approxi mately 150 acres of loblolly pines on the Josh Craig place on the Yarborough's Mill Road. WATERSHED Ryan F. Lawson, chairman of the Laurens Soil Conservation District Supervisors, has been no tified by Dr. T. S. Buie, State Con- srevationist, that the watershed planning party will start surveys for work plan preparation on th* Duncan CreelrWatershod between July 1 and July IS. DRAINAGE WORK G. P. Copeland is making plans to construct 2,000 feet of drain age ditches to help remove sur plus water from 20 acres of bot tom land pasture. The Soil Con servation Service will help Mr. Copeland with tbs survey and lay out of the ditches. ACP cost-shar ing will be used to help pay the cost of construction. Others who have alar; applied for help on drainage work are Furman Ott, J. B. Hunter, C. D. Waldrep, Kenneth Andrews, and Whitten Village. FFA Chapter Boys At Cherry Grove Beach The Clinton chapter of FFA spent Monday through Friday at the State FFA camp, Cherry Grove Beach. They were accom panied by Avery Smith, agricul ture teacher and adviser. Local bbys attending were: Marvin Freeman, Billy Teague, Jack Mc- Kittrick, Jim Addison, Nat Bates, Lonnie Farnell, Lawrence Nelson, George (1) Reid, Billy Trammell, with associate members Harry League, Cliff McKittrick and Tommy Cooper. During the week 16 chapters were in attendance with a total of 170 boys. Clinton’s chapter won third place for outstanding achievement, which consists of sports, volleyball, softball, swim ming, barracks inspection and a talent show. On Wednesday the FHA girls at Ocean Drive attend ed the talent show and on Thurs day the boys attended a square dance at the FHA camp. DAVIS REUNION A reunion of the descendants of John and Annie Byrd Davis will be held Sunday, July 2, at the Hopewell Community club house. A number of out of town guests are expected for the occasion. All members will bring picnic bas kets. Present officers of the associa tion are: President, Jack H. The unit trains the army, navy, air force and coast guard in all phases of still and motion picture underwater, ground and aerial photography.
