BETURN HOME Mr. and Mrs. George W. Clark and children have returned to their home on West Walnut street after a ten-day trip to Paducah, Ky., and Memphis, Tenn., where they visited relatives. Friends of Joe Neely, son of Mr. and Mrs. CarUsle Neely, will be Interested to know be is em ployed at the DuPont plant in Aiken for the summer months, and is making his home with his brother, Robert Neely, in North Augusta. He recently completed his Junior year at the University of South Carolina. Colonel B. F. Wlngard, who is at Camp Gordon, Ga., for three weeks summer camp, spent the week-end at his home here. Mrs. Metta C. Stone has return ed from a visit in Charleston with her son, Sam Stbne, her daugh ter, Mrs. C. J. Bouknight, and their famiUes. The Bouknights and daughter, Amelia, accom panied her home for the week-end. WHITE LAW IMPROVING Friends of Dr. Neill G. White- law will be interested to know he is improving following a recent eye operation at the General hos pital in Greenville. Mrs. W. L. Marshall, Jr., spent a few days last week in Charles ton with her daughter, Mrs. Joe Cutchins, and family. Friends will be interested to know Dr. Cutchins, who was graduated from the Medical College of South Carolina, will intern at the Medi cal College Hospital at the Uni versity of Virginia. They moved this week to Charlottesville. Don Rhame, who has complet ed his first year at the Medical College of South Carolina, Char leston, is working for the sum mer months at the Valdosta, Ga hospital. Misses Janet Johnson, Barbara Anderson, Sally Pitts, Martha Todd, Jane Ellen Fowler, and Carol FrankUn, with Mrs. George Cobb of Rock Hill, spent last week at the Todd cottage at Windy Hill Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Sanders ars making their home in Rock Hill, where he is supervisor of grounds for Winthrop College. Mrs. San ders, the former Miss Shirley Dunaway, is a recent Winthrop graduate. Bill Turner, a senior at the Medical College of South Caro lina, Charleston, is working at the Wayne County Hospital, Goldsboro, N. C., for the summer months. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. W. R. Turner. Mrs. W. W. Hendrix and Mrs. W. T. Whatley of Greenwood, Mr. and Mrs. W. Q. Pendley of Atlan ta, Ga., were guests of their sis ters, Mrs. Clyde F. Smith, Mrs. A. M. Young, and Mrs. Edward Ray, during the week. AT MONTREAT Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Fakkema and children left Tuesday for Montreal, N. C., where they will spend two months. Mr. Fakkema, who is associate professor of Christian education at Presbyte rian CoUege, will direct Christian education and recreation for youth clubs and conferences there. Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Lloyd have moved Into a residence on East Carolina Avenue. Mr. Lloyd is with Azalea Homes here. Miss Linda Knox is spending two weeks in Asheville, N. C., as the guest of Miss Geneva Robin son, who is manager of the YWCA. TO PHILMONT Binki Wlngard, Mike Johnson, Bobby Johnson, Bobby Haskins, Larry Warren, Bill Shields, and Hap McSween leave tomorrow for a three weeks trip to Camp Phllmont in New Mexico. Joining groups from Greenville and Spar tanburg they will travel by air conditioned bus. The trip out will be made by a southern route and the return by a northern route. Major Clyde F. Smith, Jr., and children, Carol Ann and Mike, of the Air Force Base, Little Rock, Ark., visited his mother, Mrs. Clyde F. Smith, last week. Mrs. W. S. Porter and daugh ters, Misses Julia and Helen, left Saturday to spend the summer months at their cottage at Mon treat, N. C. Miss Florence Winn left Mon day to attend summer school at Shorter College, Roms, Ga. A recent graduate of Agnes Scott College, Decatur, Ga., she Is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Winn. Misses Kay Young and Susan Turner are spending the month of June at Camp Ton-A-Wandah, Hendersonville, N. C. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Young, Dr. and Mrs. W. R. Turner motored to Hender sonville Sunday for a visit with their daughters. Charlton Law, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Law, Is attending summer school and working at The Citadel, Charleston. Laura Ann and Ed Sturgeon of Savannah, Ga., are visiting their' grandmother, Mrs. H. E. Stur geon. Harry, 3rd, is visiUng rela tives in Cross Hill. Their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Sturgeon, are spending a few days in the mountains. Miss Jane Sturgeon of Durham, N. C., was at home with her mother for the week-end. Mrs. Ralph Todd and daugh ter, Mary C. Todd, of Jackson, Miss., Miss Esther Todd of Simp- sonville, Mrs. John Dupree of Greenville, and Mrs. Charles Milford of Greenville, visited Mrs. Morgan Todd, who is a patient at Hays hospital, during the week-end. Mrs. John Rose boro was in Gastonia, N. C., last week, going especially for the graduating ex ercises at Gastonia High School. Her nephew, Rhett Carson, was an honor graduate of the class. As president of his class he served as master of ceremonies and pre sented the dilplomas to the grad uates. Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Horne and Bill Horne visited the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Horne, at the Isle of Palms dur ing the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Carson and son, Rhett, of Gastonia, N. C., spent Sunday with their aunt, Mrs. Morgan Todd. Misses Barbara Eichelberger. Celia Casque, Corinne Boyd, Murray Addison, and Irene Vaughn, accompanied by Mm. John T. Adair and son, are spend ing two weeks at Ocean Drive Beach. Rev. and Mrs. John G. Wilson and Mrs. May H. Williams of Greenville, were guests during the week of their sister, Mrs. J. I. Adair. MOVE TO ROCKY MOUNT Mr. and Mrs. L. V. Powell and sons, Joey and Bobby, moved June 1 to Rocky Mount, N. C where Mr. PoweU is now locat ed. TO OKINAWA Pfc. Ben W. Crouch, III, son of Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Crouch, Jr., of MountviUe, left Oakland Calif., last week for 17 months duty on Okinawa. Teresa Hogan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Hogan, left Mon day for Camp St. Mary’s at Ridgeland, where she will spend three weeks. Dr. and Mrs. W. A. Lynn and sons of Rock Hill, spent the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Downs Monroe. Ronnie Moore Is spending the summer school sessions at West ern Carolina Teachers College, CuUowhee, N. C., where he is a student. VACATIONING Mr. and Mrs. J. Sloan Todd and daughters are vacationing at their cottage at Windy Hill. Miss Marie Moore of Rock mil, is visiting her brother and sister- in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Perry M. Moore. Also here several days last week was Mrs. Moore’s mother, Mrs. Jessie Schumacher of Waynesville, N. C. ATTENDS CONFERENCE Rev. Joel E. Cannon, pastor of Broad Street Methodist Church, is attending the annual South Carolina Methodist conference in Greenville this week. Mrs. Can non is attending the ministers’ wives luncheon today. J. B. Ar nold attended one of the sessions on Tuesday as a delegate from the church. BOZARD8 MOVE Friends of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bozard and daughter will be in terested to know they are moving today to Johnston where he will be principal of the elementary school. He has served as princi pal at Providence School, Lydia, and was principal at Clinton Junior High School last year. Mr. Bozard, on June 19, will begin work on his masters degree at Furman University through a National Science Foundation Scholarship. Mr. and Mrs. Nolen Wm. King and daughters, of Summerville, Ga., spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Ja cobs. Betsy King remained for a longer visit. Mrs. R. B. Smith, Mrs. John Pylypow and daughter. Susie Bundy, of Pensacola, Fla., are visiting their son and brother, F. Howard Smith and Mrs. Smith for a few days. Ed Pitts is attending summer school at the University of South Carolina, Columbia, continuing work on a degree in business ad ministration. Mr. and Mrs. George B. Brock- enbcough and daughters, Mary Lee and Mildred, of Atlanta, Ga., were here during the week-end to visit their parents, Mr. and Mrs. George H. Brockenbrough, Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Dunlap. Page, of the Laurens Federal Savings and Loan Asso ciation, is the new president of the Junior Executives and Em ployees Conference of the South Carolina Savings and Loan League. He was named to the post at the recent annual conference in Columbia. GENE WILKES Gene is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Harry Wilkes. Follow- Inf graduation from Clemson in 19M, he entered service for several years, returning Inter to work toward a degree in architecture. While at school, he was a member of the Minaret Chib and was awarded recognition by the American Institnte of Architects of Osuth CsroSna He was selected to receive a grant to work with a New York firm for three months. This grant is given to top students from accredited architectural schools. He Is now associated with J. Harold Riddle, architect, at Myrtle Beach. He, Mrs. Wilkes, who is the former Miss Jane Roper, of Laurens, and their little son moved this week to Myrtle Beach. Cross Hill News HOSTESSES FOR MEETING Miss Eleanor Dial and Mrs. W. M. MISS EMILY BAILEY Miss Emily BaUey received a BA degree in Political Science, University of South Carolina, Columbia, at recent graduating exercises. She Is the daughter of Mrs. P. S. Bailey and the late Mr. Bailey of this city. Mrs. L. R. Adams gave a short devotional based on Psalms 104:- 14. Mrs. J. H. Thomason, Sr., in vited the members to meet with her and Mrs. W. H. Finley in July, The Invited guests were Mrs. Fred Bryson and Mrs. George Byrd of Greenwood, and Miss Zelle Crisp of MountviUe. Mrs. C. S. Pinson and Miss Lizzie Bryson were -program leaders. Mrs. Pinson introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. George Byrd, who gave a most interesting and informative talk on "Roses.” In her discussion she stressed the se lection of best varieUes, the cul tivation and care. Mrs. Byrd has made the growing of roses a hobby, so she has experienced much of the information she gave. She brought a large con tainer of beautiful roses and pre sented a rose to each member. At the conclusion of her talk. Miss Bryson presented her with a gift.
