Rhame entertained at tea on Sat urday* afternoon at the home of the former. Pink snaps and carnations adorned the tea table in die din ing room, with lighted pink tapers on the buffet to Complement the floral arrangement. Red camel lia* with quince and other early spring flowers decorated the liv ing room, and pink debutante ca mellias were used* in the music room. Mrs. Tom Addison and Miss Lillian Hart served punch. Included in the guest list of about fifty-five were a number of the bonoreea’ Winthrop College friends, Miss Grace Saasa of Prosperity and Columbia, and Mrs. John Watte Davit of Green wood. The hostesses’ gift to the bridea- elect was silver in their chosen patterns. * Camp Fire Girls of Petago District . Entertain Parents The Roee, Busy Bee and Willing Workers groups of Blue Bird girls in the Petago District held their annual Dad-Daughter box supper at the Community Center on Mon day evening, -February 27. The mothers were also invited for the occasion and a large number at tended. A candlelight service was held and membership cards were pre sented the girls. Winners for best decorated boxes were: Rose group, Kathy Heaton, with Alice Cunningham receiving honorable mention. Busy Bee group—Nora Sway- ingham; honorable mention, Wanda Lou Watts. Willing Workers group, Kathy Taylor; honorable mention, Pat Osborne. ... Entertaining mothers and fath ers, the O-ki-ci-ya-pi and Luta Camp Fire groups held their box supper at the Community Build ing the following night. Mrs. Geneva Caughman anH Mrs. Lois Wehunt are leaders of the first group; Mrs. Mattie Bell Ivester and Mrs. Violet King, for the second group. A Camp Fire ceremonial by candlelight precede the awarding of membership cards. Prizes and honorable mention for boxes in (he first group went to Diane Lydia and Ann Thomp son. In the second group Phillis Chapman and Kellsene King. * t t This evening the 7th, 8th, and Mh, Junior Horizon clubs will serve supper to their mothers. The girls are planning, prepar ing and serving the supper. A ceremonial will be held and mem bership cards awarded. Mrs. Edna Osborne and Mrs. Ethel Lever are leaders for the 7th grade girls, with Mrs. Vera Foster and Mrs. Hazel Wesley directing activities for the 8th and 8th grade girls. * t t Mrs. S. C. Mrs. Rowe will coordi nate the news to eliminate dupli cations and submit it for pub lication. Lawns Discussed at Garden Club Meet Mrs. Judson Brehmer and Mrs. C. T. Thomason were joint host esses for the February meeting of the Yellow Jessamine Garden Club at the home of the former on Monday afternoon. Avery Smith, instructor in agri culture at Clinton High School, was the guest speaker. He talked on lawns, stressing preparation, planting and care, with a discus sion period following his talk. Officers elected during the busi ness session to serve the club for the coming year are: President, Mrs. Brehmer; Vice-President, Mrs. Mac Duncan; Secretary, Mrs. Jphn Madden; Treasurer, Mrs. Noland Suddeth. They will take office in April. A refreshment course was serv ed at the close of the afternoon. Daffodils were prettily arranged with other early spring flowering shrubs and bulbs to decorate the hostess’ home. Century Club In Business Meeting The annual business meeting of the Century Club will be held on Tuesday afternoon, March 7, at 4 o’clock at the home of Mrs. W. R. Anderson. Ladies' Golf Assoc. Luncheon and Bridge The Ladies Golf Association of Lakeside Country Club will hold their regular luncheon Tues day, March 7, at 12:30. Hostess es are from Laurens. For reser vations call the club. Rons Underway For Madhcrtters Tea Friday Afternoon Local women will be given a chance to try their hands at fash ioning hats on Friday afternoon when members of the CUnton Mu sic Club entertain with a “Mad Hatters’’ tea in the ballroom of the Mary Musgrove Hotel. The event, which will also feature fashion modeling from three local stores, will get underway at 4 o’clock. Background music will tfurntehed. Tickets may be obtained from any member at the door Friday afternoon. The public is invited to enter the competition, and prizes will be awarded in the fol lowing categories: !■ 1. Best hat depicting a hobby. 2. Most ridiculous. 3. Most elaborate flower trim med. A small entry fee will be charg ed for each hat. Judges will be Mrs. P. B. Williams and Mrs. T. C. Owings of Laurens. Proceeds from the event will be used for the club’s beneficial work in the music field. Melligrom Club Studies Old Silver Monday afternoon the “Melli- gren” Book Club met at the home of Mrs. John Stevenson on Calvert Avenue. Mrs. Stevenson, president, pre sided over a brief business ses sion. An interesting program on old sliver was presented by Mrs. Reese H. Young. She displayed a number of pieces which belong to local residents. Mrs. James Neal and Mrs. Bai ley Dixon, new members, were welcomed into the dub. Refresh ments were served at the cloee of the program. Mrs. Templeton Is Hostess To Club Meeting at the home of Mrs. J. B. Templeton last week, mem bers of the Tuesday Bridge Club enjoyed a number of afternoon progressions. Prior to the games the hostess served cherry tarts, nuts and cof fee. Dish gardens with other sea sonal arangements made a pretty background for two tables. High scorer for the afternoon was Mrs. Lynwood D. Lott. Class Continues Study On Faith Continuing their study for the year on “Basic Belief and the Re formed Faith,’’ members of the Ladies’ Bible class of the Associ ate Reformed Presbyterian Church met on Monday evening at the church. Mrs. J. P. Johnston, program leader, taught a chapter from the study book. Later in the evening the host esses, Mrs. Marion Nabors, Mrs. H. A. Copeland, and Mrs. Harold Coleman, served punch, cake and mints. Foliage Is Topic For Club Study Monday afternoon for the regu lar meeting of the Carolina Wren Garden Club, Mrs. Gary- Hol combe presented the program on foliage arrangements. The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. J. Robert Cox and was opened with .a devotiona) by Miss Ruth Bailey. Mrs. Hol combe talked on various types of foliage and bow to combine it with flowers and other acces sories. Using greens, skeletonized leaves, dried and artificial foliage she demonstrated the making of a number of arrangements as did Mrs. Fled Holcombe. On display also was an arrangement by Mrs. Guy Tumblin. Later in the afternoon the host ess and assistant hostesses, Mrs. Guy Copeland, Mrs. Hugh Simp son and Mrs. W. C. Baldwin, served sandwiches, cookies and coffee. Containers, Shapes and Accessories Discussed at Meeting A club member, Mrs. A. C. Young, was speaker for the Sun Bonnet Garden Club meeting on Monday afternoon. The group met at the home of Mrs. Frank Miller, with Mrs. L. N. Warren and Mrs. Edgar C. Taylor as sisting as hostesses. Jonquils and other early spring flowers were Prettily arranged to adorn the hostess’ home. Mrs. Young talked particularly on accessories and containers, shape arrangements and type materials to use, showing a va riety of fruits which she had made to complement arrange ments. Mrs. Harry Ayers, president announced plans for visiting the Edisto Gardens in Orangeburg for the March meeting and asked each member to plan to make the tour. Dessert Bridge For Wednesday Club Entertaining members of her Wednesday Club, Mrs. Milford Smith was hostess for a desert bridge the past week at her home on Elm street. Two tables were appointed for the serving of a sweet course when the guests assembled and later a number of progressions were enjoyed. Mrs. Don Creighton and Mrs. Frank F. Fowler were winners of score awards. Colorful seasonal arrangements adorned the card rooms. MISS POOLE CAPPED Miss Janet Poole of this city, a member of the freshman nurs ing class at the Baptist Hospital, Columbia, was capped in exer cises there on Friday evening. Her parents, Mr. and Mr*. Floyd Poole, attended the exerciees. Also capped in the same cere mony was Miss Brenda Koon of Laurens. WHh the Sick Friends of Mrs. E. J. Adair will be interested to know she is a pa tient at Hays hospital. Miss Beatrice Malone is conva lescing at home following an ope ration illness at Hays hospital. Friends of Mrs. W. T. Scogin will be interested to know she has been a patient at Blalock Clinic the past few days. Little Danny Webo, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Webb, is a pa tient at Hays hospital. Mrs. J. W. Horton is improving at Blalock Clinic. Returning to their homes on Tuesday after operation illnesses at Blalock Clinic were Henry Yeargin and John Willard. Dismissed from Hays hospital earlier in the week were the fol lowing patients: Mrs. Emmie Thomas, John B. Bagwell, Mrs. P .W. Finley of Mountville, W. J. Morris, Mrs. Merrill Walters, Mrs. J. B. O’Shields, James Douglas, Mrs. Earl Armstrong, Mrs. Andy Haines, Mrs. Clifford Woodward and Mrs. Grace Bright. Mary Evonne Ward, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otis Ward, has been transferred to Self Memorial hospital, Greenwood, from Bla lock Clinic. She is suffering a fractured arm injury.
