The farm option was put in the law by Congress in recognition of the fart that farm income may fluctuate greatly from year to crop To'illustrate the value of social security coverage and of the op tion to the farmer, let’s use as an example a farmer who grosses at least $1800 every year. Under the option, this farmer could claim a net of at least $1200 every year. On his retiriment at 85 this farm er would drew e social security benefit of at least $80.00 per month.
