Organization Serves Girls of AH Ages Founded in WO by Dr. and Mrs. Luther Halsey Gulick of Maine, with the aid of a group of educator*, Camp Fire Girls, Inc., alms at building character and developing skills through leisure- time activities baaed on “learn ing by doing.” It is creative and flexible, al lowing a girt her choice' of activi ties. It emphasizes the individual girl in the group. It is built around the home and family. It incorporates Indian lore and symbolism. Camp Fire Girls find adventure in seven crafts: Home, Outdoors, Creative Arts, Frontiers of Sci ence, Business,- Sports and Gaines and Citizenship. They go on nature walks and overnight hikes; hold cook-outs; enjoy sports and games ami make beautiful things. They participate in community projects and team to become self-reliant, coopera tive citizena. Blue Birds are seven, eight and nine years old. Camp Fin Girls an ten yean old through tbs eighth grade. Horizon Club mns- bers arc ninth graders through high school. Camp Fin Girls an found ia over 3,000 communities in the United States. Tbs Clinton Coun cil is the only one in the state of South Carolina. Our newa- Inpers are constantly reporting ases of suicide, violent physical ittacks and even death, as the •suit of mental and spiritual ill- The Good Lord never intended for people to suffer as they do. He planned for them to be healthy and happy. He provided a Book of Instructions for us to this end. mete instructions work wonder fully when satisfactorily follow ed. We have many documented case histories to prove this. We are encountering an in creasing number of cases of those who are suffering physical Illness as the result of unbalan ced living. These patients not oaly suffer personally, but also inflict suffering on members of their families. The terrifying increase in al coholism and its tragic conse quences reflects this unbalanced living. These unfortunate suffer ers, seeking mental relief from their problems, are too often mis led by the lying propaganda of liquor advertising, which pre sents this vicious drug in attrac tive forms. How many lives, homes, busi nesses have been destroyed by liquor, eternity only will tell. Many will say that I am praj- judiced, but if they had to listen to, and witness the misery pro duced by this awful habit, they will understand why so many of us oppose liquor in any form at any time. Again and again I have have had people admit to me that all of their troubles stem back to the use of alcohol. I have never heard of a case where alcohol ever solved a prob lem. It only aggravates thsm. Modern living subjects most of us to inward tension and nervous strain, which, if unreleased, pro duces many physical slimants ■«ni hastens death. Many people die or take their own lives pre maturely as the result of bottled up emotions. There are three releases for these Inward tensions: (1) Talk them out with a wise and aadnv standing counselor or friend, such as a minister, priest, rabbi, or physician.
