Seasonal arrangements added to the attractiveness of the card rooms where a sweet course was served prior to the games. Mrs. .Robert Johson and Mrs. Harry A*. *8ounight were winners of score prizes. College Dames Meet This Evening The College Dames will have the November meeting this evening, Thursday, at 8 o’clock at the home of Mrs. James Oeland. Mrs. W. A. L. Sibley of Union, will speak to the group on her trip to Russia the past summer. Hostesses for the month are Mrs. Jospeh Gettys, Mrs. Edouard Patte, Mrs. John Madden, Mrs. Nokm Car ter, Mrs. Clyde Ehrhardt, and Mrs. Oeland. Little Boys Celebrate Birthdays With Joint Party Celebrating, joinfly 'Bill Walker \nd Norman Dixon invited about thirty-five little boys and girls for a birthday party on Monday after noon at the Par&i House of All Saints Episcopal Church. Bill, the son of Dr. and Mrs. James L. Walker, was four years old the 29th, and Norman, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bailey Dixon, was three Monday As the little folk entered suckers were taken from a “sucker tree’ and they enjoyed fishing for favors. The room was festive in Hallo we'en decorations including crepe paper streamers, black cats, pump kin.* and appropriate table cov ers. Stunts and games furnished entertainment, after which the group gathered to sing “Happy Birthday." Cold drinks were serv ed with cakes decorated with Hal- owe’en faces Frolernity Entertains Thomwell Children # Twenty children of Tliorowefl Or phanage were entertained last Thursday at a Hallowe'en party by members of Alpha Sigma Phi Fra ternity of Presbyterian College. The children were guests of' the Fraternity at hs suite on South Broad strete .which was decorated in an orange and black color scheme. Ron Shields, Billy Ray Ladd, Bob Bethea, and Evin Var- nnr led the group in games, assisted by members of the fraternity. Va rious spooks and goblins visited during the evening. M!iss Gay Maddox and Miss Christine Wilson of PC, presided at the refreshment table which fea tured hot chocolate, sandwiches, and popcorn. Special guest of the evening was, Don Hendrix of Thomwell. The young guests were presented favors of hats, balloons, noisemak-' ers and candy at the end of the evening. ! * • j Sunday School • Class Entertained Mr. and Mrs. Donad Ray Cauble entertained Mrs. Cauble's Sunday school class in the Junior Depart ment at Bailey Memorial Methodist ! Church with a Hallowe’en part os Saturday evening. The group enjoyed Hallowe’en games and stunts, after which re freshments were served. Garden Club Council Decorations Contest The Clinton Garden Club Council is planning a Christmas decorations contest for homes and business es tablishments. In a Hallowe’en setting two tables were arranged in the den for a dessert course when the guests ar rived. The seasonal motif was pret tily carired but in te table appoint ments and> in arrangemets wrhich featured yellow chryaantemums, autumn leaves and fruits around a Hallowe’en figure. Mrs. Arnold Cannon w-as winner of high score award. Canasta-Bridge Benefit Is Sponsored By Club Council A canasta-bridge benefit spon sored by the Clinton Garden Clubs Council on Wednesday of the past week netted the organization $1,140 HaH of this amount will be used to beautify grounds around the Boy Scout hut and the other half for other council projects. The benefit was held at the American Legion Home which members of the Gardnettes Club had decorated for the occasion. Hallowe’en tallies and other ap pointments were used and displayed in the home were pumpkins, pyra- cantha berries, and fruits. Refresh ments wer served during the af ternoon Bridge winners were Mrs. A. B. Stump. Mrs. Jasper Rowland, and Miss Shirley Miller. Mrs. W. G. King won the canasta award and Mrs. Jodie Chandler th door prize. Africa Is Mission Study For Class A mission study on "Africa" was given by Mrs. J. P. Johnson at the regular monthly meeting on Mon day evening of the Ladies Bible class of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. The meeting was held at the church, with Mrs Bynum Betts and Mrs. Nolon Carter as hoateas es. Young of this city re cently was guest speaker to the Nosegay Garden Club of Newberry on a theme of fruit and vegtable arrangements The meeting was held in the home of Mrs Ralph B Baker, in Newberry Mrs. Young was introduced by Mrs. Van Oxner of Kmards, as a gifted and enthusiastic flower ar ranger who has over the years re ceived recognition both locally and throughout the state for her beau tiful and unusual arrangements She is also a former Clinton Gar den Club Council president and for mer president of the Carolina Wren Garden Chib of Clinton. The speak er demon started her talk by show ing various arrangements using ar tifical fruit she had made from a special formula and also arrange ments made with fresh fruit and vegetables Several of the containers used by Mrs. Young in her arrangements were of hr own personal creation Containers can be found in many unusual places and with a little in genuity made quite colorful and at tractive.
