Work on the new $150,000 plant is progressing well. says T. M. Youngblood, local manager, being about two weeks ahead of schedule. The commercial offices in the new building will be occupied within the next week or ten days, with equipment installation continuing in other parts of the building. Completion is expected in January and telephone subscribers are scheduled to !>egin using the dial system Feb. 5. Presbyterian College, badly need ing football victory, will open de fense of its Little Three crown in j Spartanburg Saturday night against a Wofford team primed to avenge two years of PC domination. The Blue Hose, still winless after outgaining both previous oppon ents. need the psychological boost of victory this week-end. But Wof ford looms increasingly strong! af ter having shut out Davidson with just 52 rushing yards last Saturday. Both teems have stout defenses, but the Hosemen offer two weapons as main backfield threats. Sta tistics for the past two games show quarterback Bobby Joiner of Ma con. Ga., developing fast as an areial artist. He has completed 20 of 31 attempted passes for 176 yards to date. And his accuracy mark it 64 6 per cent Fullba6k Bill Hill, the slashing 205-pounder who plays with brokep right hand in a cast, supplements the Joiner passes with his hard in side running game He has ripped off 148 total yards in 30 carries from scrimmage for an average of 4.9 yards per try. Hill also has served as the number one target for his pass-minded quarterback, having caught aerials good for 84 total yards. PC halfbacks found the running rugged against Lenoir Rhyne de fenses last Saturday, but neverthe less. two scatbacks rank next in the Blue Hose offensive picture Jimmy Kolb of Sumter, has carried for 65 yards in 13 attempts for an even 5 yard average; Ronnie Hampton of Kannapolis, N. C., has added 64 in 20 jaunts to average 3 2 yard* each carry. There's sail another weapon looming large on the Presbyterian horuon. Veteran end Jon V as tine, who has handled the punting chores the past two years, is off to his best start in this department Aided by a mighty 63-yard boot against Lenoir Rhyne, he now averages 38.6 yards per punt for his 11 kicks thus far Presbyterian gndmen, after los-’ nig their first game of the season to Furman in a close 12 to 21 de cision, dropped their home-opener against powerful Lenoir Rhyne last week-end . The Hosemen oulgained the op ponent and threatened once on the two-yard line and twice from the 11, but they could not overcome the 0 to 8 lead staked out by Lenoir Rhyne in the >econd quarter And Smart Score Twice In Thornwell Win Thornwrll will go over U Union County Friday night, to meet Ixickhart High in their week’s grid game.
