declining health of four years and
an illness of a month.
He was a native of Laurens l oun
ty hut had made his home in Ar
lanta for the post 30 years. He was
the son of the late William F and
Ixni Nash Medlock.
Surviving are one daughter. Mrs
Claude K Bryant, one son. William
T Medlock, both of Atlanta; three
sisters. Mrs. E M. Nesbitt of Atoka.
Tenn., and Mrs C. W. Pinson of
Belton, four brothers. Dr W. A
and Dr. B W. Medlock, both of
Decatur. Ga . Fred E Medlock at
Lauren* and F-strn Medlock at At
lanta. and three grandchildren
Funeral services were conducted
in Atlanta Wednesday at 2 p m

day night when they journeyed to
Hickory Tavern and the Panthers

Feature of the game was a 90-
yard run for a touchdown by john
ny Mann. Hickory Tavern halfback
Thornwell opened the game with
a long drne that stalled at the 10
On the first play after stopping the
drive. Mann went all the way.
Thornwell came back in the sec
ond period dm ing 55 yards on short
plays Gordon Timmons took it over
for the Gophers wrom the 5 to knot
the score when the extra point try
failed. .
The Panthers came back in the
third to add 6 on an 8-yard plunge
by Elliott Madden after Roger
Mann set up iht play with a 39-
yard run TV point alter tailed
Hickory Tavern sewed it up in
the final period adding 6 points with
a 5-yard plunge by Roger Mann.
Mann set up this score with a 40-
yard sweep or. the previous play.
He added the point, also, with a
plunge up the middle

Laurens Library Gets
Grant for Rural Service
News has just been received by
the Laurens County Library th« its
application for a special grant to im
prove the book collection has been
approved by the State Library
Board and that funds will soon be
available The amount the Laurens
County Library will receive is based
on rural population and will be in
the neighborhood of $2,819 00.

money to extend and improve rural
service
Fourteen county or regional li-1
braries in the state will receive
grants from federal funds under the j
administration of the South Carolina
State Library Board These funds
come u>'South Carolina under the'
terms of the Library Services Act
and must be spent for rural public
library service
Joanna To Hove Hobby

Joanna .the second town in South
Carolina to pioneer w ith a large hob
by and craft show, has announced
its third such event to be held on
Friday, October 14 The one-day
show will be at the Community Club
House will be open to the public
from 10:00 a. m. through 10:00 p
m. w ith the club house committee of

The purpose of the show is to af
ford people with hobbies and col
lections an opportunity to show
them and to furnish a common
meeting ground where they may
learn of other people's interests
The entire lower floor of the spac
ious club house will be given over
to exhibits and collections. In addi
tion to the display of art. collections
of all sorts, exhibits, documents, ce
ramics, etc.. 1 people whose hobbies
are growing flowers and vegetables
will have displays, with special em
phasis on home baking and homg
canning this year for the first time.
As an illustration of the rapid
growth of arts and crafts in the
state .the South Carolina Recrea-
j tion Society is sponsoring a Crafts
both at the state fair this year, Oc
tober 17 through the 22nd.
