Walker on Calvert Avenue. Games were enjoyed and later ice cream and cake were served on the lawn from a refreshment table prettily appointed in the birthday. ^ motif. The cake, ked in chocolate, was decorated with miniature boats. Each little boy was given a bag of marbles as a party favor. Newberry Beauty Queen Is Bride of Former P. C. Football Player Miss Barbara Jean Spotts of New- " berry was married to Bob Roy Mathews of Decatur, Ga., July 17 at 4:30 in the afternoon in the Lutheran Church of the Redeem er, Newberry. Miss Spotts, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fuller Daniel Spotts of Rt. 1, Newberry, is a former Miss ‘ S. C. in the Miss United States contest which precedes Miss Uni verse competition. The bride holds many other beauty and related titles including Miss Limestone Col- 4 lege, Miss Newberry, Miss Tim- monsville Tobacco Queen, first al ternate in the 1955-56 state Maid of Cotton contest. A Newberry High School gradu ate, she received a BA degree from Limestone College in 1959. At the Gaffney college she was elected to the Hall of Fame, having been vice-president of the senior class, cheerleader, head marshal and a member of Phi Kappa Theta social sorority, the Social Board and Athletic Association. Mr. Mathews, son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin R. Mathews of 1110 Ad ams St. in Decatur, was graduated from Decatur High School. He re ceived a BS degree from* Presbyte rian College last year. At PC he was senior class president, vice-presi dent, Pi Kappa Alpha social frater nity, Student Christian Association, business manager of the 1959 year book. a senior superlative and a member of the varsity football and baseball teams. This fall he will teach and coach at Decatur High School Eventually 4 he plans to enter dental school. The Rev. Henry McCullough of the church and Dr. John McSween of Clinton officiated at the wedding, with Mr Spotts giving his daughter in marriage and Mr. Mathews serv ing his son as best man A reception was held at the New berry community hall ater the wed ding . After a wedding trip to Florida they will live in Decatur. Church Group Studies "Abraham" Continuing a study from Genesis, Mrs. A. B. Blakely talked on “Abra ham” for the lesson for the July meeting of the Ladies’ Bible class of the Associate Reformed Presby terian Church. Mrs. W. B. Tribble and Miss Nan nie Young Tribble were hostesses for the meeting which was held Monday evening at the church. Following the program a social hour was held and the hostesses served sandwiches, chips, cake and punch. Mrs. Alexander Is Club Hostess Entertaining members of her Wednesday club recently Mrs. W. A- Alexander was hostess for a des sert bridge at her home on South Adair Street. A sweet course was served when the guests assembled after which two tables were in play on the porch. Score awards were pre sented Mrs. Davis R. Holland and Mrs. W. J. Lee. Iris Club Members Visit Rose Hill For the July meeting of the Iris Garden Club yesterday, members enjoyed a visit to Rose Hill, home of the late Governor Gist near Union. Those making the trip gathered at the home of Mrs. W. A. Davis, Jr., and motored to Rose Hill. After a tour of the home and grounds a picnic supper was served.
