Plaxico. chairman of Laur ens County Democratic Party, said Tuesday that notices would shortly go out to all precinct officers of the Democratic Club stating that precincts will meet at 3 p. m. Feb. 27 .. Rufus B. Workman Laurens—Rufus Bruce Workman, 56, of 600 Church St., died suddenly early Wednesday morning at his home apparently suffering a heart i attack. He was born in Laurens County, the son of Mrs.“Sarah Ellen Work man of Cross Hill and the late M. F. Workman. PC And Pembroke To Clash Saturday The previous basketball meeting between Presbyterian College and Pembroke found PC Forward Bob Stratton tossing in 47 points, anfl he will seek to duplicate this feat when the Blue Hose entertain Pem broke here Saturday night. Presbyterian won that first meet ing, by an overtime 92 to 90 count on January 7. It’s one of just two victories the inexperienced Hose- men have managed to post thus far, so a repeat triumph is very much needed in the PC camp. - The Saturday night affair is scheduled for 8 p. m. in Leroy Springs gymnasium. Forward Stratton, whose star has shown brightly all season despite the dismal record, averages 24.2 points-per-game for the 11 engage ments thus far. He has sighted in on 107 field goals far 214 points and then added 52 from the free throw Ijne for a total of 266. Center Jacks Williams of Sumter is the only other double-figure scor er, with 128 points and a 11.7 aver age. And the main ones behind him have been Guard Mickey Long of Greenville, 81 points and a 7.4 aver age; and Freshman Forward Joe Harvard of Columbia. 72 points and a 6.6 average. The Blue Hose dropped their la test verdict here last Saturday night to Erskine by a close 73 to 69 count, and they are scheduled to go to Due West for a rematch next Tues day night. Stratton pocketed 23 points in this losing cause. $100,000 Bond Issue For Laurens Area Hospital Proposed A $100,000 bond issue for improve ments at the Laurens County Hos pital in Laurens was proposed Thursday in the General Assembly. A bill introduced by the Laurens delegation . in the House of Repre sentatives would authorize the board of trustees of ■ the Laurens Hospital District to issue the bonds and empower the county auditor to levy a property tax in the district sufficient for repayment. It prescribes use of the funds in this manner: |—(1) Any accrued interest to be applied to paymenPof the first In stallment of interest to become due on the bonds; (2) Any premium to be applied to payment of the first installment of principal; (3) The remaining money to be used to pay the cost of issuance of the bonds. The bill notes that a 1959 act provided for division of Laurens County into two hospital districts, one designated as Clinton Hospital District and the other as Laurens Hospital District. By the terms of that act, the then existing county hospital was made the property of Laurens Hospital District.
