"foo ob served a birthday January 22 was honored with a party on Saturday evening at the Lydia Community Center. Decorating the living room were gladioli, berries and greenery. In « keeping with the birthday motif, a . pink and green color note was car ried out in appointments for the dining room where guests were in vited for refreshments of sandwich- " j-e** cake and other party dainties served in buffet style. Pink ribbon streamers adorned the white linen cover and in the center of the table silver candelbra holding pink ta pers flanked a bouquet of pink gladioli, white carnations and green ery. At one end was the lighted birthday cake and at the other the punch bowl. Dancing was enjoyed by the 20 guests attending and Shirley was remenjbered with a number of gifts. Assisting Mr. and Mrs. League in entertaining and serving were Mrs. Grace League Conner, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Huffstetler. Gardenettes Select Officers For Year At a business meeting on Mon day afternoon at the home of Mrs. Milford Smith the Gardenettes elected new officers for the coming year beginning in April. Serving as co-hostess with Mrs. Smith was Mrs. Sammie Pinson. Officers elected were as follows: President — Mrs. R. L. Plaxico, Jr. Vice President—Mrs. Carl Wes- singer. Secretary—Mrs. Joe Edwards. Treasurer — Mrs. T. M. Young blood. During a social hour held later in the afternoon a refreshment course was served. Artistically ar rayed to decorate the hostess’ home for the occasion' were colorful fruits and greens. "House Plants" Is . Topic of Program . Meeting at the home of Mrs. C. C. Giles on Monday afternoon, mem bers of the Sunbonnet Garden Club heard a program on house plants presented by Mrs. M. L. Robertson and Mrs. Howard Smith. Members also brought plants which were exchanged. Following the business session a social hour was enjoyed. Assisting Mrs. Giles in serving sandwiches, cookies, nuts and coffee were the joint hostesses, Mrs. George C. Bellingrath and Mrs. Frank Miller. Shower Compliments Mrs. Haselden, Bride -Complimenting Mrs. Bill Hasel- den, the former Miss Billje Burts, Mrs. J. B. Wilder, Miss Ruth Hol land and Mrs. Nancy Hill ,enter- tained about 25 friends on Wednes day evening of the past week. The Clinton Mills Community Cen ter, where the party was held, was beautifully decorated for the occa sion with camellias atid carnations combined with greenery. The hon- oree was presented a corsage of camellias and a shower of gifts. Later, in. the evening. punch, .sand: wiches and cookies were served. Mlrs. P M. Myers, of Spartan burg, was an out-of-town guest for the party. , Dr. Lee Blakely Weds Pennsylvania Girl In Ceremony January 2 Miss Louise Irmgard Katz and Dr. Lee Add Blakely were married on the afternoon of Saturday, Jan uary 2 in the First Lutheran Church of Collingdale, Pa. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Karl F. Katz of 304 Wol- fenden Blakely of this city. ♦ The Rev. JDr. Henry Hodel per formed the ceremony. Mrs. Hodel was the organist. After a reception in the Alpine Inn, Springfield, the newlyweds left for Williamsburg, Va. They will, live in Washington, D. C. Mr. Katz gave his daughter in marriage. She wore a princess gown of satin brocade with long sleeves and a chapel length train. A rhine stone tiara held her elbow length veil, and she carried an old fash ioned bouquet of white roses. Mrs. Kurt Katz, of Wilmington, Del., sister-in-law of the bride, was matron of honor. Her tangerine crystal cloth dress was compliment ed by an old-fashioned bouquet of white carnations. Bridesmaids were Miss Marilyn Keller, 6t Elmira, N. Y., and Mrs. Harvey Bixby, of Morton, Pa. They wore copen blue crystal cloth dresses and carried bouquets iden tical with that of the honor atten dant- Guy S. Blakely, of Charleston, was his brother’s best man. Dr. Ed win Whiteford, of Whiteford, Md., and Dr. Donald MUcheU,.nf Wash ington, D. CT ushered. The bride was graduated from Collingdale High School and from the Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing. Dr. Blakely is an alumnus of Georgia Military Academy, Presbyterian College and the Bowman Gray School of Medi cine, and is presently a resident at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Following the serving of a sweet course a number of afternoon pro gressions were enjoyed at the two tables. Mrs. Roy Gasque won top honors. Decorating the card rooms were quince, African violets and be gonias. Mrs. Reid Hostess For Garden Club Meet Mrs, George Reid was hostess to members of the Carolina Wrenn and Clara Duckett Garden clubs on Monday afternoon at her new horn'* on the Whitmire highway. Red nandina berries were beau tifully arranged with life size birds arid peppermint carnations and white snapdragdns in an antique satin container decorated the liy*. ing room. In the den-dining room pink grapes and pink gladioli were used. Mrs. S. W. Sumerel gave an in teresting program on Iris. The de votional was given by the president, Miss Margaret Blakely. Later the hostess and assistant hostesses, Miss Ruth Bailey, Mrs. C. W. Cooper and Mrs. W. C. Bald win, served sandwiches, cookies and hot tea. Present Program to Residents at Home A program on birds was given by Mrs. Henderson Pitts when mem bers of the Yellow Jasmine Club met on Monday afternoon in the chapel of the Laurens County Home. Proceeding the program members held a business session and later residents were invited to participate. Mrs. William Johnson, president, presided and Mrs. Judson Brehmer gave the devotional. Members and residents joined in the singing of hymns with Mrs. Don Creighton at the piano. Following her talk on birds Mrs. Pitts presented a para keet and cage to the home on be half of the club. Mfember§ also car ried dish gardens for the home. The hostesses. Mrs. R. M. League. Mrs. W. G. King and Mrs. W. C. Kenneth Smith has returned to his home in Laurens following sur gery and a stay at Hays Hospital. High score award went to Mrs. C. W Law, a club visitor. Sprays of quince in a table ar rangement and vases of ivy on the mantel made a pretty background for cards. Thursday Club Has Meeting On Thursday afternoon Mrs. R. P. Hamer entertained members of her bridge club at her home on Maple Street. Seasonal arrangements, magno lia foliage and daises, added to the attractiveness of the hostess’ home. Two tables were in play during the afternoon with Mrs. Tom Addison and Mrs. George Huguley winning score prizes.
