County 4-H Club Members Receive Citations. Awards Laurens — Laurens County 4-H Club members received awards and recognition for the year’s work at the annual 4-R Club Achievement Day program held Saturday mor ning at the Agricultural Building here. Mike O’Dell, 4-H Council vice- president, presided in the absence of the president, Judy Bryant. Jimmy Simmons of C a m a k school, senior member, told of the highlights of the national 4-H club Congress held in Chicago recently, k Jimmy, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Simmons of Ware Shoals, was one ,of the state electric program win- ! ners attending the congress. Special awards to junior boys and girls electric winners were made by St. Clair Knight, representative of Duke Power Company. Nellie Ruth Kellett received an electric steam and dry iron and Ray Bal- lentine was presented an electric motor. Jack Spiders Serves At Idaho Base “I’m a Yankee Doodle Dandy” i would never be the theme -wig of the general superintendent of the Sunday school department Until his assignment to Mountain llome AFB, Idaho, in the “deep north,” 1st Lt. Jack Spiders never ventured above the Mason-Dixon Line De spite his “rebel” background. Lt. Spiders is a very welcome addition to our Protestant parish and to the staff of our Sunday school. Lt. Spil- lers with his wife, Jean, who teach es ip the primary department of the Sunday school, and two lovely dau ghters .Carol, -age 5, and Jan, agei 4. live at Mountain Village Born in Greenville. South Car-! olina, the son of the Reverend J W. Spiders, a Baptist minister. Jack early set his sights on flying. Aftej” completing high school he matric ulated at Clemson A k M where in- January of 1954 he was given his BS degree in engineering. Inuring his senior year, Jack met and mar- ! ried Jean Wilson from neighboring Laurens. South Carolina. I Along with his diploma from Clemson, Jack also was given his commisaion in the Air Force and left with his wife for primary pilot training at Graham Air Force Base, Florida. Next stop for the Spiders family was Big Spring AFB. Texas, when* Jack completed his pilot training. Three and a half years were spent at Craig AFB. Alabama/ where Jack was an instructor in T-33’s. Reassigned to SAC, Jack 'came to Mountain Home in June of I this year via McConnel AFB, Kan-; i sas. Jack's hobbies are varied but tend toward the outdoor life. He Us looking forward to the coming hunting season with high hopes of bringing back his limit with the Army rifle that he has recondition-! ed into a sporting rifle. By training, background, person ality, and desire, Jack capably fills the requirements for general super intendent. We are fortunate to have him working with our outstanding Sunday school staff and are sure he wid prove himself a real assett to the program. Welcome, Jack, Jean, Carol and Jan Spillers!
