They were greeted by only four boys back from last year's regular team —and a total of only 18 prospective players. They got underway on their ten- game schedule with two victories, winning from the Columbia junior varisty, 32-0, and Ford High, Lau rens, 20-6 Cowpens administered the only defeat in the third game. 25-0. fol lowed by three more wins: Lan drum. 40-13 Lockhart. 32-12; and Chapin. 18-0. The Thornwell boys were tied 6-6 when Hickory Tavern came from behind in the last 50 seconds with a touchdown-making pass Their latest w in was Monday, night at Greenwood when they, met the Greenwood junior varsity in a game postponed from Friday. The! score was 26-6 Thornwell had a 20-0 lead at halftime and Coach Templeton didn't have much trouble, cleaning the bench of his sev substitutes in the last half. Scoring touchdowns were Timmons, who al so made two extra points. During the business ses sion officers for the year were elect ed. The officers elected were: Ken neth Johnson, president ; Billy John son. vice president; Barbara Bled soe, secretary-treasurer; Agnes Black and Goith Spivey, program chairmen; Linda Black, song lead er and recreational leader. Meeting with the girls were Miss Myrtice Taylor. Home Demonstra tion agent, and Miss Peggy Berly, assist Home Demonstration agent and Mrs. C W. Johnson, local spon sor Meeting with the boys was the County Agent. J R Bennett Sixteen club members were pres ent. Other boys and girls of the community are urged to join the clubs The club meets each fourth Monday at 3 30 o’clock Boys and girls aged 10 through 20 living in rural areas are eligible to join. The parents are asked to encourage members in this organization. It of fers excellent training in character and citizenship. Mrs. B YV Cooper is pres ident of the club. HALLOWEEN PARTY The Shady Grove Community Club w ill sponsor a Halloween party for the children of the community Saturday night. October 31. at 6:30 o'clock. Games and contests will be arranged. Prizes will be given for the bes tcostume. In judging prizes there will be there groups, grown ups. teen-agers and children under 12. GROUND BROKEN FOR NEW EDUCATIONAL BUILDING On Sunday, October 25. imme diately following morning worship the congregation of Kairview Bap tist Church met on the grounds where a new educational building is to be erected to have ground break ing. After scripture was read by the pastor. Rev. M E. Ringer, the first shovel of dirt was turned by Jim Ownsby, the oldest man of the church and a deacon. Benediction was pronounced by the pastor Plans have been made, weather being suitable, to lay the founda tion this week. The pastor urged all to pray that God will meet with our needs in building this educational building. Attend, one of the churches of your community this Sunday.
