N. C., entertained last Sunday with a birthday dinner at the home of the former honoring Mrs. Julia K. Wilson, their aunt, and E. R. *Knox. Mrs Wilson was celebrating her 86th birthday and Mr. Knox his 75th. In the afternoon they enjoyed pic tures shown by D. A. Yarborough taken on a trip during the summer through the Western states to Cali fornia. Mexico and Canada. Also enjoying the occasion were Jimmie and Jane Tinkler, of Cliff- side, N. C.. Miss Gladys and Roy Wilson, of Cross Anchor. Mrs. Dunlap Is \ Bridge Hostess Thursday afternoon Mrs. Thorn- well Dunlap was hostess to mem- ^>ers of her bridge club with two ta bles in play. Dahlias and roses prettily deco rated the card rooms. Score awards were presented at the conclusion of the progressions to Mrs. Kenneth N. Baker and Mrs. Craig Purcell, of Raleigh, N. C., a club guest, who was visiting her aunt. Mrs. Ansel B. Godfrey. Later in the afternoon the hostess served a salad course. Wednesday Club Has Meeting The Wednesday bridge club met last week at the home of Mrs Edgar Sadler for a number of afternoon games. * Three tables were in play, with score awards going to Mrs. Thomas F. Hollis and Mrs. Leonard M. Wil son. Between progressions sand wiches and cakes were served. Chrysanthemums were prettily ar ranged in the hostess' home for the occasion. \ Thursday Club, Guests Entertained Entertaining members of her Thursday club and additional guests Mrs. Robert M. Vance was hostess for five tables of bridge the past week. Roses in varied array made a pretty setting for the afternoon games During play sandwiches, coffee and other daijities were en joyed. At the conclusion of the pro gressions prices were presented Mrs. Harry Baldwin, Mrs. Rufus Sadler and Mrs. James Walker Judy Anderson Has Party On Birthday Friday. October 16. the occasion of her fourth birthday, Judy Ander son was given a party at Lakeside Country Club for which about 30 little friends were invited. Judy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rob ert W. Anderson. The Halloween theme was follow ed for the birthday cake, decora tions and other party appointments. Favors were “trick or treat” bags with Halloween masks and hats. Assisting Mrs. Anderson were Mrs. Lynn W Cooper. Jr., Mrs. Frank Jones and Mrs. Joe McGee. Methodist Women Plan Week of Prayer October 25-31 The Week of Prayer and Self De nial will be observed by the Wo man’s Society of Christian Service and the Wesleyan Guild the week of October 25-31. Two short prayer services will be held at the church on Wednesday, the 28th, at 10:00 a. m., and one from 7:00 to 7:30 in the evening. Soft background music wil be pro vided for the hours of prayer and meditation. An offering will be taken for the different phases of the woman’s division work.
