D. Adair said yesterday. Farther more, Mr. Adair observed, not only will early purchase of stamps minimize the Christmas rush, but those who buy early have the opportunity to give their Christ mas mail an extra touch of interest by purchasing some of the newer commemorative postage stamps now on hand These include the recently issued 4c Forest Conservation stamp, fea turing a forest scene in yellow, brown and green, and partciularly appropriate /or mailing Christmas cards, and the new 4c Fort Du- quesne stamp in wedgewood blue. Lanter Serving Period in Alaska Community Cash Supermarket, Clinton’s, newest merchandising firm, opened for business yesterday. The grand opening celebration will continue through the week-end and until Dec. 20. The new store, recently built on an entire block facing on Florida Street, is a completely modern food store and is the largest in the Com munity Cash chain, according to of ficials of the company. The build ing is 82x128 feet and has parking space for more than 100 cars on three sides. Fixtures include a 48-ft. refrig erated vegetable counter, 48 feet of frozen (pods space, a 48-ft. meat counter, a 36ft. dairy foods coun ter, and five check-out counters. All equipment was especially designed for the building. Wide aisles are a feature of the store. The Community Cash organiza tion operates a chain of stores, the Clinton unit being the 26th. with headquarters in Spartanburg. One unit is in Hendersonville, N. C., and the others are in the Piedmont area. The company began business in 1921 with a store in Spartanburg with B. R. Littlejohn, Sr., as own er. He was joined soon afterwards by Paul M. Smith and they opened their first Community Cash Store in 1932 on West Main Street in Spar tanburg. Mr. Littlejohn is president of the company and Mr. Smith is executive vice president. B. R. Littlejohn, Jr., and W. L. Jeffords are vice pres idents, and J. A. Potter, Jr., is sec retary-treasurer These and other officials are here for the grand open ing this week-end Manager of the Clinton store is Edward Perry, formerly of Spar- lanburg.
