Miss Ruth Patterson, in Co lumbia and attended the Carolina- Duke game. J. R. Horton of Chatham, N. J., visited his mother, Mi>. R. S. Hor ton, and other relatives here th" past week-end. Mr .and Mrs. H. J. Newburn of Sarasota, Fla., were recent guests of their daughter, Mrs. Frank C: Sherrill, and Mr. Sherrill follow ing a vacation stay in Highlands and Brevard, N. C. Also guests of the Sherrills Sunday were his pa rents, Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Sherrill, Sr, of Davidfeon, N. C., coming es pecially for the baptism of their grandson, Eric. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Simmons of Washington, D. C., have been visit ing the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Simmons, and are now visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Delk in Palm Harbor, Fla. Also visiting the Simmons’ during Mr and Mrs. A. M Greenwood are visiting relatives in New Bed ford, Mass , and in other New Eng land cities. Mr. and Mrs. Alan Trammell have taken an apartment in Colum bia where the former is employed and plans to attend the University of South Carolina at the beginning of the socend semester in February. Mrs. H. M. Shaw will return to morrow to her home in Raleigh, N. C., after a week’s visit with her daughter, Mrs. George H. Cornel- son and Mr. Cornelson Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Buice -and daughter, Darlene, spent Sunday in Rock Hill with the former’s pa rents, Mr. and Mrs. F. T. Buice. Edward L. Henderson of Kinards, has accepted a position with Max- wel Bros Furniture Company. Mrs. Howard Watkins aid chil dren, Howard, Jr., and Suzanne, spent the week-end in Rutherford- ton, N. C., with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Reese. Barry Ellison, student at Furman University, Greenville, spent the week-end wtih his parents, Mr and Mrs, James F. Ellison. Miss Clyde Smith of Seneca, was the week-end were their sons and the guest several days last week of families from Columbia, Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Kugler and daugh ters, Barbara and Patsy, of Myrtle Beach, visited her parents, Mr and Mrs. C. C. Giles, the past week end. Fred Holcombe, local Lions Club president, and I. A. Edwards, repre senting the secretary, attended a zone meeting on TTiursday evening for Lions presidents and secreta ries in Laurens. Mrs. W. C. Adams and Mrs. W. K. Weireck of Macon, Ga., were guests last week of their sister and niece, Mrs. J. B. Spcake, and of the former’s father, R B. Simmons. Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Hollingsworth were guests several days last week of Rev. and Mrs. G W Hodges at Myrtle Beach. Mrs. Tom Childress and daughter, Laurie Jean, left this week to join Mr Childress at Rembert, near Sumter where he is a member of the school faculyt. They had been spending some time with her pa rents, Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Chaney. Mr. and Mrs. John B. Jordan and children of Kinston, N. C., spent a few days this week with Mrs. Jordan's parents, Col. and Mrs. Robert E. Wysor. Miss Virginia Sadler has returned to New York City after a vacation stay here with her mother. Mrs. R. Milton an Stepp Smith Dies At Cross Hill Home Cross Hill — Willie Stepp Smith died Friday morning at his home near Cross Hill. He was a native of | Cross Hill, a son of the late John and Bessie Culbertson Smith. He was a member of Cross Hill Bap tist Church, a World War I veteran and a member of Cross Hill Masonic Lodge 159 Smith. 65-year-old Cross Hill res ident. died from a self-inflicted shot gun wound. Sheriff C W Wier re ported The sheriff said Smith shot himself with a .12 gauge shotgun near his home here Surviving are his wife. Mrs Dol tie Cole Smith; three daughters.
