Mrs. James Lovelace has been called to Green Cove Springs, Fla., on account of the illness of their daughter, Mrs. Colie Gruber. With The Sick Mrs. Janie Starnes, of Rt. 3, New berry, is a surgical patient at Jo anna Hospital. Mrs. Mattie Stroud was admitted to the hospital Saturday for treat ment. James G. Miller was transferred to Greenville General Hospital Sun day for further treatment. James Brown is a patient at the Veterans Hospital in Columbia He underwent surgery on Tuesday. Surviving, besides the parents, are one brother, Eddie Leopard of the home; one sister, Kappie Leop ard of the home; paternal grand mother, Mrs. Dora Leopard, of Clinton; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Craine. of Green-1 ville: and maternal great-grandpar ents. Mr and Mrs Warren Craine, of Clinton man and Mrs Sarah Young, both of Clinton; Mrs. Rex Hughes of Lau rens; Mrs. Willie Fleming of Beau fort; and Mrs. Ola. Motes of Ander son; two sisters, Mrs. Bernice Tur ner and Mrs Perry Batchelor, both of Gaffney; three brothers, James and Roy Garner, both of Gaffney; and Hall Garner of Pacolet; 26 grandchildren; and six great-grand children. Funeral services were conducted Thursday at 3:30 p. m. at the Jo anna Baptist Church by the Rev. James B Mitchell, the Rev. Nathan Fleming and the Rev. V. M. Ross. Mrs. Mary Lehman directed the games with bingo and a scavanger hunt as the highlights of the party. Jeff O’Dell, Billy Byars. Weldon Barnes, Ronnie Davenport, Tommy Lawson, Johnny Jacks, and Bob Fulmer helped Steve to celebrate. The birthday cake was white with blue decorations and candles. Mrs. Lehman served hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, potato chips, ice cream and cake. Steve received many gifts. Whelchel, died early Wednesday morning at the Jo anna hospital after several years of declining health. A Cherokee county native, she had made her home in Joanna for 30 years and was a daughter of the late James D. and Emma Gall man Garner. She was a member of the Joanna Baptist Church.
