Lee Chapter, United Daughters ol the Confederacy was held on Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Malta Stone with her daugh ters, Miss Sara Stone, Mrs. Henry Trammell and Mrs. W. Q. Grigg, of Charlotte, N. C.. assisting as hos tesses. When the guests arrived cake squares, block cream and nuts were served. For the evening’s program Mrs. Asa Davis read an. interesting paper on Varina Davis, wife of Jefferson Davis, telling of her influence on his career. ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED Century Club Is Entertained For Open Meeting Tuesday afternoon Mrs. C. M. Bailey beautifully entertained the Century Club and their guests at the annual open meeting at her home, Boxwood Gardens. A profusion of colorful flowers from, the hostess’ own garden, in cluding iris, peonies and roses adorned the drawing room and liv ing room, Mrs. George Brockenbrough, of Kinards, introduced the speaker of : the afternoon who gave a humor ous reading. Guests were invited into the din ing room where refreshments were served in buffet style from an ex quisitely appointed table covered with an imported lace and cut work cloth and centered with a silver epergne arranged with pink roses and columbines. Special guests for the afternoon were Mrs. D M Douglas, of Ches ter. charter member of the dab, and Mrs. W L Marshall, of Wades- tooro. N. C. Assisting the hostess in entertain ing were Mrs Frank Boland. Mrs. Layton Fraser. Mrs W L Mar shall. Jr. Mrs William Redd Tur nrr. Mr| Marshall Brown and Mrs. C. Bynum Betts Dessert-Bridge For Thursday Club Thursday afternoon Mrs. Fran cis Blalock entertained members of her card club with a dessert bridge. Two tables were appointed for a sweet course and later during play nuts and cold drinks were enjoyed. Mrs. M D. Mdam, Jr., made top score for the progressions. C. Her engagement has been announced to Frank James Wyman, Jr., of Charleston and Greenville, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wyman, of 14 Hillside Lane, Greenville. The bride is a graduate of Converse College and for the past year has been teaching in Charleston. She made her debut la 195-1 in Raleigh. The bridegroom is a graduate of The Citadel and in early June will graduate from the Medical College of South Carolina in Charles ton. He is n member of AKK Medical Fraternity. They expect to live in Greenville while Mr. Wyman is interning at General Hospital. Mias Dirk is the daughter of (he former F.liiabeth Young, daugh ter of the late Dr. and Mr* Jack H. Young of Ibis city. Friday evening following the sen ior play, Mr. and Mrs. R F’. Wilder entertained the class members with a drop-in at their home on Wood- row Street.
