Give Concert On Monday

Presbyterian College will be host
to the Centre choir for supper at
o 00 p m prior to the concert. Dr.
Marshall W. Brown, president of
the college, is a Centre College
graduate ,
The choir's visit is sponsored by
Presbyterian College and choirs of
the Baptist Church
The Centre choir s concert will be
divided into four groups. T>o of the
groups will be standard sacred
numbers Another group will in
clude spirituals The final group

Revival Services Be At
Bailey Memorial Church
The Reverend Lynn T Corbett of
Columbia, will beihe guest minister
of the revival services to be held at
Bailey Memorial Southern Meth
odist Church beginning Sunday,
April 13 Services will continue
each night through the week at
7:30 p. m.
The Reverend Corbett is pastor of
Maple Street Southern Methodist
Church and President of the South
ern Methodist Conference.

tion of the Future Homemakers As
sociation held on March 29 in An
derson.

tional was given by the Belton chap
ter Minutes and reports were heard
and officers were elected
Following reports of ratings of
chapters, Dollo Wilder of this city,
state secretary, presented the
awards Joanne Todd and Ruth Hol
land wore awarded excellent cer
tificates’ on their home experiences
Joanne made a formal and Ruth
made her entire winter wardrobe.
In the dress revue "Easter Fash
ions on Parade.”, Mickey O’Shields
modeled a suit and Allene Dodgen
of Thorn well modeled a matching
bag and hat of her own design.
The Laurens, Clinton and Thorn-
well chapters received excellent on
all entries and were presented an
FHA emblem and creed for their
homemaking department. The
Thorn well chapter received excel
lent on the suit made by Miss Dod
gen, home project by Jenny Mc
Clellan, and home project by Patsy
McAbee. They were also awarded a
good rating on yearbooks and scrap
books

Dr. Stevenson To
Return As Chairman
Of PC English Dept.
Dr John W Stevenson is return-
I mg to Presbyterian College as pro
fessor of English after spending the
past year'on the faculty of Mill-
saps College, President Marshall
W Brown announced today.
Dr. Brown said Dr Stevenson
will resume his position here at the
Mountville Grange

per at the Mountville Grange hall

w ill be served from 6 until 9 o'clock.

English department for seven years
before joining the Millsaps staff
last fall.
President Brown also pointed out
that on the recommendation of Dr.
John W. Harris, Stevenson will as
sume the chairmanship of the Eng
lish department upon his return. Dr.
Harris, who has served as chair
man since 1944, will continue to
teach certain advanced courses in
English
Stevenson joined the Presbyte
rian College faculty in 1950,imme-
diately after receiving his Master’s
degree from Vanderbilt University.
He earned his doctorate from that
institution in 1954. Undegraduate
work was done at Wofford, from
which he received his BA in 1948
His mam interest centers around
literary criticism, and Dr. Steven
son has had two articles published
m recent years in the South Atlan
tic Quarterly One dealt with "The
Literary Reputation of Stephen
Crane." and the other analyzed
"The Pastoral Setting in the Poetry
of A E Housman ” He bolds mem
bership in the Modern Language
Association and the South Atlantic
Modern Language Association.
Dunng his previous stay in Clin
ton. the PC English professor was
active in church affairs, serving as
teacher in the First Presbyterian
Church Sunday school and singing
m the church choir. He is married
to the former Miss Russell Allen
of Spartanburg, and they have a
young son.
