Number Requests Made Of Delegation at Session Consider Forming Homemakers Unit A request that Laurens County take steps to initiate a Homemaker program to care for personnel of ih- digent families during period of ill ness and other times of need was presented to the county legislative delegation at its monthly meeting Monday in the court house in Laur ens. Thomas A. Babb, president of the County Council of Social Agencies, presented the request and was sup ported by Mrs. Mable Little, of the county relief office, and a commit tee representing the Council. A general discussion ensued dur ing which it was stated by Senator Robert C. Wasson that he was glad to have the matter presented, but he didn’t think the county was prepared to enter the program on its own. It is a move that requires much thought and investigation, he said, and he thought that a state-wide set-up would be necessary. Mention was made that probably federal funds from Washington could be secured to assist in 'such a program. Mrs. Harold Goller, chairman, of a com mittee of the County Council of So- Ashmore Nominates Clinton Boy For Air Academy Post John Boyd Wrenn, Clinton High School senior, has been nominated among ten young South Carolina men for appointment to the U. S. Air Force Academy in Colorado by Congressman Robert Ashmore. EacW Congressman and Senator can nominate up to ten this year to attend the academy. Relief assistance for Charles Barnes, young victim of an automo bile accident, who appeared at the meeting in a wheel chair, was ar ranged with Charles Richard of Rt. 2, Woodruff, who will take cate of Barnes in his home, with $38 month ly coming from the relief depart ment and $37 from a special county fund, making a total of $75 to pay for the assistance for a period of three months. If necessary, other arrangements will be made later. A request was received from Gar vin B. O’Dell, game warden who works in the Lake Greenwood area, for a new boat and motor, at a cost of $600.. ,. The delegation conferred with Architects Craig and Gaulden, of Greenville, and Robert N. Jackson, of Columbia, relative to submitting costs on proposed changes and addi tions to the county jail. Members of the delegation said they would like to have an estimate of costs involv ed before undertaking the work. Board Chairman John A. Thomp son of the County Hospital, confer red with the delegation about paying costs in sending a county child to the Greenville General Hospital for treatment and surgery to relieve a crippled condition. The county agreed to stand good for the costs, of about $400. The Crippled Children’s Society will provide $300. Four claims for pauper funerals at $35 each were approved. ' f The transfer of $100 to a fund for lunacy examinations was approved. Debate was adjourned on the pay ment of invoices submitted by Rob ert L. Gray, judge of the Domestic ^Relations Court of the county, for office rent, telephone and other ex penses of $300, a tape recorder at $235, and extra tapes $15 A general discussion of the court was entered into.
