After a short business session. Miss Mary Frances Pinson led the Christmas program. Carols were sung as response to Scripture selec tions. Mrs. Joe Edwards presented a story,. “The Christmas of Roses.“ Gifts of cash were made for the Methodist Student Movement at Presbyterian Cdllege. Buffet Supper Tuesday at Hotel Employees of Ml S. Bailey and Son, Bankers, their wives and hus- •bgnds were entertained on Tuesday evening at the Hotel Mary Mus- grove with a buffet supper. ■'J., Covers were laid for 32 guests at a U shaped table decorated with miniature trees. The punch table overlaid with a red cloth held a .bas ket filled vyith roses. Silver candela' bra with lighted green tapers and other Christmas appointments adorned the buffed table. After supper gifts were presented from a large beautifully lighted tree and dancing was enjoyed * MRS. HOWARD WAYNE BYARS MISS RACHEL ELIZABETH WATTS WEDS LIEUT. BYARS IN CHURCH CEMETERY Miss Rachel Elizabeth Watts be came the bride of 1st Lt Howard Wayne Byars Saturday, Decernber 21, at 5 p. m. in a fujl military wedding at the Mountville Baptist Church. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Troy Watts, of Mountville, formerly held a position with the Chronicle Publishing Company. She is now a civil service employee at Donaldson AFB in Greenville, where her husband serves as adjutant of Det. 2, 2589th Air Reserve Flying Center. He is the son of Mr. and Mxs. Ollin Logan Byars, of Hot Springs, Ark. Chaplain Donald E. Kehrli, of El lington AFB, Houston. Tex., heard the marriage vows, and music was provided by Miss Ethel Mae Rowe, of Joanna, and Mrs. Lamar Light- sey, of Greenwood. For the service the church was decorated with white gladioli and chrysanthemums, red carnations and holly. Col. Harold L. Fuller, of Donald son Air Force Base, Greenville served as senior usher and officer in charge of the honor guard, which included Capt. Roy. A. Tremblay and Capt. E. Leon Walker, of Greenville, Capt. John L. Goggin, of Greer, and Lt. Wallace A. Cab- ler. of Spartanburg, in addition to the following ushers: Lt. William 0. Homes, Lt. Oliver Reagan Rowe, both of Spartanburg, Lt.*Joe Rob erts and Lt. Jimmy Love, of Green ville. Groomsmen were James L. Bur gess, of Columbia, and Frank Simp son, Jr., of Joanna,, brothers-in-law of the bride, Capt. Jeremiah R. Dooley, Lt. Calvin S. West, Jr., and Capt. William A. Johnson, all of Donaldson AFB. Herbert L. Byars, of Seminole. Tex., served as best man. He is the groom’s twin brother.. Mrs. Burgess, the bride’s sister, was matron of honor, and other bridal attendants were Mrs. Simp son, also her sister; Mrs. H. E. Ragland, of Amarillo, Tex., and Mrs. Delmah. D. Cook, of Hot Springs. Ark., sisters of the groom; Miss Mary K. Sheats (< of Winder, Ga., cousin of the bride, Mrs. P. M. Pitts, of Aiken, and Miss Frances Thomason, of Greenville. They wore white gowns with sat in bodice featuring bateau neckline and elbow-length sleeves, along with tj tulle skirt over taffeta with satin sash ending in loose panels to the floor. They carried crescent bou quets. of red carnations and holly. Miss Mary Lou Simpson, of Jo anna, niece of the bride, was dress ed like the older attendants and served as. flower girl; Lee Burgess, of Columbia, the bride’s nephew, wore a replica full-dress military uniform and carried the wedding rings. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore an off-shoulder sat in .gown with a wide bertha em broidered with jewels. The full- length skirt ended in a chapel train, and her fingertip veil was attached to a lace cap trimmed in pearls and flsequins. She carried a cascade Of leathered carnations. A reception was given at the Watts home, and afterward the couple left for a brief wedding trip for which the |Ride changed to a brown tweed suit with mink trim and lizard accessories. Upon return they will be at home at Calhoun Towers in Greenville. Among out-of-town guests were the groom’s parents, together with Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy E. Barr, of Silver Spring. Md.. Mrs. Bertha Hamilton, of Chattanooga, Tenn., Gen. and Mrs. E. Wade Hampton, Maj. and Mr». Cecil H. Whaley, Col. Orin B. Hansen, Maj. and Mrs. Ed ward T. Flaspoehler, all of Green ville,-and Lf. Col. Ben J. Magina, 6f Spartanburg. * Following the ceremony a recep tion was held at the home of the bride. Mr. and Mrs. Fuller Motes and Col. Harold Fuller of Greenville greeted the guests. The receiving line was composed of the parents, the bride and groom and the bride’s attendants. A mantel arrangement of greenery, white poinsettias add tapers with a madonna, figurine was effective in the living room. Mr. and Mrs. James H. Thomason invited the guests into the dining room where hot punch, bride’s cake, nuts and mints were served. Mrs. P. H. Miller, aunt of the bride, and Mrs. Beatrice Hamilton, of Chatta nooga, Tenn., aunt of the groom, poured punch. The table was lovely with a red satin cover and silver. Luncheon Honors . Miss Ellen Fraser Complinventing Miss Ellen Fraser whose wedding takes place Satur day, Mrs. Kenneth N. Baker and Mrs. Tom Addison entertained with a luncheon at the Hotel Mary Mus- grove. Place cards in the wedding theme marked the guests places. A silver compote filled with Christmas balls, white tapers and greenery effective ly decorated the table. Elsewhere in the ballroom appointments were in the holiday motif. The hostesses remembered Miss Fraser with a corsage and a gift. red and white appointments. The threfe-tiered wedding cake topped with a bride and groom was flanked by-silver< triple branched candelabra holding lighted white tapers. Red and white gladioli in a white milk glass compote adorned the credenza and a side table held white carna tions with silver spangles and green ery in a silver container. Serving were Misses Rita Smith, Linda Young, Betty Watts, Dolly Crouch, Becky Finley. Also assist ing were Mrs. W. H. Finley,- Mrs. Milford Smith and Mrs. B. P. Watts. Mr. and Mrs. J; W. Miller enter tained in the gift room. Here bal sam and gold ornaments were used. The guest register was kept by Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Chance, Jr., of Clemson. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Penn, uncle and aunt of the bride, of Greenwood, and Mrs. James Sheats, of Winder. Ga., bade the guests goodbye. Bridal Luncheon For Miss Watts ■ Miss Frances .Thomason, of Green ville, was hostess for the bridal luncheon for Miss Rachel Watts on Saturday at noon at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs*. J. H. Thom ason in Mountville. The receiving room sof the home were, festive with greens and other decorations suggestive of the season. Covers were laid at small tables and'the bride’s place was marked with a corsage and white roses in a silver bride’s slipper. A three course^ luncheon was served. Guests included the bride’s attendants and Mrs. James Sheats. of Winder, Ga. At this ^ time the bride presented gifts to her atten dants. The hostess gift to the hon- oree was silver Watts-Byers Rehearsal Party 1 - Following the rehearsal on Fri day evening for the Watts»Byers wedding, Mr. and Mrs P. H Moiler and G. H. Watts, aunt and uncles of the bride, entertained' the wedding party ahd out-of-town guests at the Joanna Club House . Clusters of white wedding bells with a silver bow were arranged as a background for the refreshment table overlaid with an organdy cov er over green. White tapers in triple silver candelabra with silver bells at the base, and a silver compote filled with balsam and white car nations completed the table appoint ments. Assorted party dainties, coffee, nuts and mints were served. Mrs. L. R. Adams poured coffee from the silver service at one end of the table. Others assisting were Miss Zetle Crisp, Mrs. S. M.
