She has served hs a 4-H local, leader for more than 20 years In her present position, as -head of the 4-H leaders organization, she provides inspira tion and leadership for over 2,000 4 11 leaders in the state . Throughout the years Mrs. Sum- erel's devotion to 4-H work has been r demonstrated in many ways. She ^ has cooperated with the county ex tension agents in organizing and conducting a large number of com munity 4-H clubs and in helping with county camps and special 4-H events. In her role as local leader, vhe assists 4-H members with com-' mumty club meetings, individual project work, and with county, dis trict and state 4-H programs and events. / She is a great believer in rec- i cation as a part of 4-H training and ha> been instrumental in organizing 4 11 softball teams and picnics and in supervising recreational# games for 4 H members. iMrs Sumerel has helped a num ber of underprivileged rural boys and girls become active 4-H mem bers by counseling with parents and j providing means for participation in 4-H work In addition to serving as 4-H local leader, she is an active church member, copimunity leader, and >chool teacher .And she thinks..noth ing of dressing in blue jeans and helping Mr Sumerel with operation and care of the farm orchard and vineyard and other farm chores. College Choir Begins Concerts For Year Tlie Presbyterian College Robed Choir will present its sacred con cert, a service of word and music, at the Walhalla Presbyterian Church Friday evening to begin its 1957-58 season "Rejoice, Ye Christians” is the theme of this program which seeks to emphasize the message of joy which pervades the Christian faith. It is presented in three phases: ".Joy to Live,” “Joy to Believe,” and “Joy to Witness.” Conductor Edouard Patte, thus continues his— attempt to depict musically great themes o f the Christian faith. One theme is "de veloped each season -through the presentation of ancient and mod em classical selections,. ^ A total of 26 concerts are in cluded on the schedule of the Pres byterian College choir this season, a schedule which includes a spring tour through four other Southern states pnd week-end engagements before church congregations throughout South Carolina. Dr. Patte is now conducting the choir for its 11th season During this time the group has received outstanding recognition for its high standard of musical" excellence in more than 425 appearances in 10 Southern states and the national capital. Thfee other concerts are sche duled for the four-day tour whi extends through next Monday. The choir will sing at the Cartersville (Ga.) Presbyterian Church on Sun day evening, at Atlanta’s North Avenue Presbyterian Church that evening and at the Newnan (Ga.) Presbyterian Chruch on Monday night Manning Chapman In Veterans Hospital Following Accident Manning Chapman, 40-year-old farmer” of the Tylersville section of the county, is a patient in the'Vet erans Hospital in Columbia suffer ing from injuries-he received in a ’truck accident late Saturday eve ning, Nov. 23 He was taken to the Laurens County Hospital shortly after the ac cident He is reported to be suffering from a fractured neck, broken right arm, head jyounds and possible internal injuries He also lost a number of teeth . Cpl James T Townsend of the Highway Patrol, who made ah in vestigation. said that. Mr. Chapman was traveling, a county road which crosses ttie Yarborough Mill road at the oljf TylersVdlle store. Apparent ly. he said, Mr. Chapman was driv ing at a high rate of speed, lost con trol of the truck in taking a curve, ran off the shoulder and wrecked. He was said to be alone.
