She was a native of Laurens coun ty where she spent her entire life. She was a daughter of the late John W. and Tirzah Langston Clarke. She was the oldest mem ber of the Langston Baptist Church. Mrs. Holland is survived by her husband, Reese L. Holland; one daughter, Miss T. Holland, of the homt; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. John B. Holland, of Clinton; qnd 1 four grandchildren. She was the last member of her immediate fam ily.. Funeral services will be held this (Thursday > afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Langston Baptist Church near Clinton, conducted by the Rev. Carl Bishop, assisted by the Rev. J. H. Darr. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be E. L. Hol land, Bryan Holland, Jobe Holland, Niles. Clark, Steve Clark, and Eu gene Wingo. Payne Co: HgATINO OIL Tribute Paid To Mrs. Slay During Laurens Court Term Laurens, Nov. 15—Special tribute was paid the associate clerk of court in General Sessions Court here this afternoon. Jurors, attorneys, other court officials and several spectators gave Mrs. LeEllen Williams Slay a standing o v a t i o^p^foiWing a brief speech by Attorney tTl L. Long, past president of the local bar association. _ • Mr. Long called attention tb the fact that Mrs. Slay was serving at her last term of court in Laurens County after 16 years of service. He called Mrs. Slay a “faithful, ef ficient and pleasant public ser vant,’’ and said, "We shall miss your pleasant smile in the court house." Clerk of Court W. E. Dunlap sec onded the remarks of Mr. Long. Judge T. B. Greneker, presiding judge, said he, too, would miss Mrs. Slay’s "smiling face if I ever get back to Laurens County ” Mrs. Slay has tendered her res ignation as associate clerk of court effective January 1, in order to be with her husband, L. B. Slay. Since their marriage in September, she has been comm unting between Laurens and their home-on Friar- tuck Road in Greenville. Mr. Slay is real estate representative for the Gulf Oil Company. Deep emotion was visibly dis played by Mrs. Slay, who was speechless during the tribute. — ——r—^ Cancer Society Re-Names Noble County President Laurens, Nov. 15—J. Richard No ble was re-elected president of the Laurens County chapter of the American Cancer Society at the an nual meeting of the chapter held Thursday bight at the county health center. This win be his second year as president of the group. Mrs.: Sarah D. DeLoach, who has served a nurftber of years as county corn- mender under appointment-by the btate society, was elected to the same post under new -regulations.
