Ga , presided over the remainder
of the meeting.

a student at Erskirie Theological
Seminary, was given; and the ses
sion's doctrinal sermon was deliv
ered by Dr D. McN. Morrison, of
Erskine College

tion. such as the annual Little Four
tournament which will be played as
usual at a time and place to be an

The Blue Hose are slated to open
their campaign on November 30
against the strong Parris $sland

play every state team except the
University of South Carolina and
Clemson, and the schedule also in
cludes strong teams representing
Belmont Abbey, Georgia Teachers,
and Mercer.
This year marks the opening sea
son for new head basketball coach

the football backfield. He starts
without the Thompson boys, Dave
and Bruce, who ranked among the
nation's top scoring combinations
last year with an average of more
than 50 points per game and who

Laurens Ministers
Score Gambling'
Laurens, October 10 — The Lau
rens Ministerial Association has
called for enforcement of gambling
privileged children as its project
for the month of December.
A list of names of children is to
be secured, and th«e children will
be taken to the stores in groups by
the Jaycee members. The chil
dren will actuary make their se
lections and purchase the items
they desirp for their loved ones and
themselves. ,

Also singled out by the associa
tion were private clubs, lodges and
other groups, but the ministers
said, “We have in mind particu

The statement, which also com
mended the sheriff for law enforce
ment, was signed by the Rev. Alvin
Boone^ association president, and
the Rev. Frank Manning, secre
tary. . _
The action was adopted unani
mously, the statement said.
Her husband, Dessie Gene Sulli
van, 23, of Rt. 1, Owings, was ad
mitted to Greenville General Hos
pital with gunshot wounds of the
upper abdomen and neck. His con
dition was listed as poor.'
The third victim, Ralph Sullivan,
was wounded slightly in the hand.
Sheriff’s deputies said John Hen
ry Jones, 40 of Owings Station, is
being held in connection with the
shooting, which occurred between
8 p. m. and 9 p. m. at the home of
Fred Spurgeon in the Owings com
munity.
A .32 caliber automatic, believed
to be the death weapon, was found
at the Spurgeon home. It contained
three rounds, four rounds having
been expended.
Deputies said five or six witnesses
to the shooting made statemenjts
Sunday, but as yet, a motive.for^Ane
shooting has not been established.
