Oxley, of Laurens, announce the marriage of Mrs. Oxley’s sister, Miss Florence Adair of this city to Tom B. Cooper on Sunday, October 6. Rev. J. H. Darr performed the double ring ceremony at the First Baptist Church in the presence of members of the immediate fami lies./ Mr and Mrs. Cooper have return ed from their wedding trip and are residing in their recently completed new home on South Holland Street. ARP Circles Hold October Meetings Mrs. E. B Sloan was hostess to members of Circle No. 1 of the Woman’s Missionary Society of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church on Monday afternoon. Mrs. George Watts Copeland led the Home Missions program with Mrs. Hubert Todd, Mrs. R. L. Plax- ico, Miss Nannie Young Tribble and Mrs A B. Blakely taking part. Later during a social hour the hostess served sandwiches, cookies and Russian tea. The evening circle met at the church with Mrs. R. L. Plaxico, Jr., as hostess: The program on the chosen topic had been arranged by Miss Catherine Blakely and was led by Miss Margaret Blakely. Articles were given by Mrs. James P. Sloan, Mrs. Nolon Carter, and Mrs. B. B. Blakely- The groiips packed a box for Hill- crest at Landrum UDC Program On "Stonewall Jackson" Mrs. E. B. Sloan was hostess for the October meeting of the United Daughters of the Confederacy at her home on Musgrove Street. Assisting were Mrs. J. H. Stone. Mrs. Hugh Simpson, Mrs. Jasper Rowland and Mrs. M. L. Robertson. For the evening’s program - Mrs. G. A. Burton gave an interesting paper on “Stonewall Jackson.” During a social hour later In the evening the hostesses served sand wiches, tea and cake. Walker at 10:00 a. m on Tuesday, the 15th. » • ^ Episcopal Auxiliary Studies Religions Continuing a study on religions of the world members of the Woman’s Auxiliary of All Saints Episcopal Churih heard “Mohammedism” dis cussed Monday afternoon by Mrs. Michael Turner at the regular monthly meeting held at the church. During a business session Mrs Bailey Dixon, president, announced that Mrs. J B. Hart.has been named chairman of committee of altar work and the service exchange for the Northwestern district. The group made plans for a bake sale tentatively set for October 23. Circle Meets At Harmess Home The Ella Riddell Circle of Thorn- well Memorial ChUrch met Tues day morning at the Mary Jo Hart- ness Home, with Mrs. Mary Arm strong as hostess. The meeting was called to order by the chairman, M'iss Lucile Smith, with' Mrs F. M. Stutts of fering prayer. Miss Bertie Parks spoke briefly on several topics, “Let’s Talk About.”" Following the business session the program on “In W’hat Spirit,” was presented by Mrs. Alice Brownlee. Later members were in vited into the dining room where cheese biscuits, mints and hot chocolate were served buffet style. Rose and lavender dahlias were prettily arranged to center the ta ble. During the evening punch, cup cakes, cheese wafers and cookies were served from the refreshment table prettily decorat ed in a yellow, motif. The Woman’s Society of Christian Service of Broad Street Methodist Church in cooperation with the or- sponsoring a mission study course ganization from Hopewell Church is on “Cross and Crisis In Japan.” A series of studies will be given in four sessions at Broad Street Church on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 15 and 16, Tuesday and Wednesday, October 22 and 23 from |Jj until 5 in the afternoons. For last session the Hopewell group will present a playlet “Fun and Festival In Japan,” in costume. .The chairman, Mrs. Wilmot Shealy, and co-chairman, Mrs. J. B.
