Gettys, has re turned from a five-weeks tour of eight European countries. She made the tour with the Austin College choir. The group landed in York on Monday and. Miss Gettys will return to her home here for a few days before resuming her stud ies as a sophomore at Austin in Sherman, Texas. While away the choir participated in and was •awarded third place in an interna tional choir contest in Arezzo, Italy. Picture 'Tommy" Of Interest in Clinton ' Of unusual interest locally is the picture “Tammy and the Bache lor”, since the book from which it was taken, “Tammy Out of Time,” was written by Cid Ricketts Sum ner. Mrs. Sumner is the sister of J. B. Ricketts, Greenville attorney, who is a brother-in-law of Mrs. Rob ert E. Wysor. ^ Mrs. Sumner, a native of Missis sippi, now lives in Duxbury, Mass. She is also the author of “Quality,” which was made into a movie under the name of “Pinky.” She has had two books published recently; one of them, “Travels In the Wilderness,” is an adventure story. Hampton Ave. PTA In Membership Drive; Clothing Being Collected A membership drive, headed by Mrs. Thomas F. Hollis, is underway this week by the Parent-Teacher Association of the Hampton Avenue Elementary School. Officials have expressed a de sire that every parent will join the organization, attend the meetings and participate in the varied pro gram of activity. A fence and gate for the play ground in the rear of the school has been erected by the organization from the PTA funds. A drive is also underway for clothing for needy children. The sale will begin at 1:00 p. m. Farmers from 10 Piedmont Counties are expected to consign between 800 and 1,000 head of feed er cattle to this years’ sale. John F. Wise, Clemson College livestock specialist, says both steers and heifers will be sold with ap proximately two-thirds of the offer ing being steers. This number of steers will make it possible for most buyers to fill their needs at this one sale. He points out that each year some high quality heif ers are sold which should go back to farms as foundation or herd-re- placcmeiit females. - - He explains that all cattle have been vaccinated for blackleg and shipping fever. Any cattle show ing signs of physical defects or di sease will not be sold. This should insure buyers of getting sound healthy cattle. "All cattle in this sale will be graded and yrill be sold in uniform lots according to breed, sex, weight, aid- grade,” Mr. Wise states. “This makes it possible for buyers to get uniform groups of cattle,” he adds.
