Sub-District Meets The Maltese-Cross Sub-District will hold their August meeting at the First Methodist Church in Laurens on Thursday (tonight) at 8:00 o'clock. This will be an in stallation service of officers with Larry Garner as president, and Mike Cooley as chairman of the program area of Clinton outreach being installed. The young people from Joanna will leave from Epworth Church promptly at 7:30 in..a group. Court Of Honor The monthly Court of Honor for the Boy Scouts will be on Monday night at 7:30 at the Highland Homes Baptist Church near Gray Cdurt. The highlight of the evening will be a movie shown of the Jambo ree held at Valley- Forge, Pa. All Scouts from Joanna will meet their scoutmaster, Julian Hunnicutt, at the club house at 6:15 to attend the services. Methodist Intermediates Fellowship The Methodist Intermediates met at the home of Brenda and Linda Bedenbaugh on Sunday night following the worship hour at Epworth Methodist Church. The 12 young people with their leader, Mrs. Naomi Wier, spent a quiet evening of games and recre. ation. At the close of the evening a birthday cake frosted in white with pink decorations honoring the twin’s birthday was enjoyed with ice j?feam and iced drinks. The Boy Scouts, consisting of boys from six counties, making the Blue Ridge Council, will attend an Explorers Citizens now in con ference at Presbyterian College on August 17th and 18th beginning at 9:00 on Saturday. On Saturday a group of Explor er Seouts from Switzerland will be in attendance before returning to their home land from Donald son Air Force Base in Greenville on Saturday afternoon. These Scouts were in attendance at the Jamboree in Pennsylvania and have been on tour of the United States since then. . On Saturday night a dance will be held with Senior Girl Scouts from Laurens, Clinton, and Joanna attending. Explorer Scouts attending along with Scoutmaster Julian Hunni- cutt will be Lewis Marshall, Terry Rushton, Larry Garner, and Jerry Hall.' ► * Honored On Birthday H. M. Black Passes Mrs. Iona Spurgeon Black, of Joanna, died in a Joanna hospital Saturday, Aug. 3, at 4 a. m. after a‘lingering illness. She was a member of Joanna Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Hattie Emma Mayme and Joseph S. Spurgeon. Surviving are her husband, Mar ion J. Black; two daughters, Miss es Peggy and Linda Black, all of Joanna; four sisters, Mrs. Harold B. Wilkie, of Spartanburg; Mrs. E. C. Harrison, of Gadsden, Ala.; Mrs. Sherrill Jones, of Greensboro. N.
