Roy Pitts was an over night guest of the Rev. and Mrs. J. H. Kbhler in Greenville on Tuesday. Misses Margaret and Susan Winbum, of Patrick, were visi tors on the Thomwell campus the past week-end, coming especially to attend the Bennett-Nalley wedding. Mrs. George H. Ellis is spend ing several weeks in Dillon with her grandchildren while Mr. and Mrs. Dill Ellis, are vacationing at Sea Island, Ga. Mrs. William E. Blackwell and Mrs. Louie Thomley were in Sumter on Sunday to see the for mer’s brother, Lt. Col. Ryan Mc Crary. His friends will be inter ested to know he is convalescing following an operation at Shaw Air Force Base Hospital. Mrs. W. Roy Pitts spent the week-end in Greensboro, N. C., with her son and daughter-in- law, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Pitts. Friends of Mrs. J. H. Von Hol- len will be glad to know she is convalescing satisfactorily at Self Memorial hospital, Greenwood, following an operation there on Tuesday. Dr. and Mrs. James L. Walker and sons spent the week-end in Columbia with her mother, Mrs. E. Y. Koty. Friends of L. W. Rawl, of Wil liamsburg, Va., formerly of this city, will be interested to know he underwent an operation on Monday at the Medical College Hospital, in Richmond, Va. Guests on Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Perry M. Moore were Mr. and Mrs. W. T. McCrackin and family, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Mas sey, of Sumter, and Mrs. Jessie Schumaker, of Inman. Mrs. Tom Baldwin and infant daughter, Sue, returned to their home here yesterday from St. Francis hospital in Greenville . Mrs. Eugene Sheom and Mrs. Robert J. Giles spent last week in St. Petersburg, Fla , and visiting other points of inter est in Florida. Mr/ and Mrs. James Holland, fomjjerly of Newberry, have moved to a residence on Florida street. Mr. Holland is connected with Joanna Stores and will ope rate a service station at Joanna. He recently attended a several weeks training school in Raleigh, N. Sloan Norris, who is a patient at the Veterans hospital in Columbia on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Rhett P. Adair spent a few days last week in Co lumbia with their brother-in-law, W. E. Boozer, who accompanied them home for a visit. Mr. and Mrs. Adair also had as their guests Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Page and children, of Charlotte, N. C.; Mr. and Mrs. John Page and children, of Little Mountain; Mrs. Ralph Dula, of Laurens; and Hubert Adair, of Greenville. ' Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Cooley and sons, Jack and Gary, of Mo- non, Ind., and Miss Carlyle Le mon, of LaFayette, Ind., spent several days last week with the former’s daughter, Mrs. Bill Sul livan, and Mr. Sullivan in the King Apartments. On Saturday they attended the PC-Belmont Abbey basketball game in Char lotte. Mr. Sullivan plays on the PC team. Friends of Sloan Norris will be interested to know he is conva lescing at the Veterans hospital in Columbia following an ope ration earlier this week. His daughters, Mrs, S. V. Friends of Mrs. Mildred Garri son will be interested to know she returned Friday to her home here from the Columbia hospital where she has been a patient for several weeks. She was accom panied home by her daughter, Mrs. Bea Frith, who has been in Columbia with her and her grandson, Don Grenade, of Co lumbia. Friends of Mrs. B. C. Preslar, of Sumter, formerly of this city, will be interested to know she is convalescing at the Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital in Charlotte, N. C., following an eye operation there on February 19. She plans to return to her home in Sumter tomorrow. Mr. and Mfrs. G. B. Goldsmith and son accompanied the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Por ter, Sr., to their home in Frank lin, N. Olympia, Cresent Take Upstate Titles In Class B Tourney Olympia boys and Crescent girls were winners of the Upstate Class B basketball championships here Saturday night. They, emerge*} as victors in a tournament that began Thursday afternoon in the Presbyterian college gymnasium and continued for three afternoons and nights. Olympia defeated Kershaw 83- 48, and the Crescent girls from Starr-^Iva also easily turned back Lower Richland team 46-18. ' Olympia's boys had a 26-13 first quarter lead, and at halftime i( was 45-25.
