' Study Club Has Interesting Program Wednesday afternoon a meet ing of the Study club was held a‘. the home of Mrs. Robert E. Wysor, Jr., on East Mable street. Continuing the year’s study on “Historic Landmarks,’’ Mrs. R. C. Adair, in an interesting and’ in formative manner, discussed the Golden Gate bridge and Bay bridge in San Francisco and the Brooklyn bridge connecting New York and Brooklyn — telling of their history and construction. She showed a number of interesting pictures. Later in the afternoon guests were invited into the dining room where refreshments were served buffet style from a beautifully appointed table covered with an imported cloth and centered with pink snapdragons. Mrs. Wysor’s sister, Mrs. J. B. Three tables were arranged for the afternoon games in a setting of jonquils and yellow gladioli. When scores were counted Mrs. Harry Y. MoSween' and Mrs. Chris Adair, Jr, were presented awards. Later the hostess served a salad plate. Robert Wysor, III, also assisted in serving. ' Molded ~ ch ieke n salad, cheese biscuits, pink chips, rolls and dec orated cakes were served. Adorning the living room were arrangements of pink snapdru- gons, camellias and hyacinths. Mrs. John Heyward: of Rion, house guest of Mrs. J. F Jacobs, was an out-of-town guest. Throughout the receiving rooms where ten tables were placed for cards, narcissus, ca mellias and gladioli in red and white were prettily arranged A Valentine tree of camellias and red hearts was displayed on the j dining room table. „When cards were laid saide a salad course with heart-shaped sandwiches and a sweet course were sreved. Score awards went to Mrs. J. B.,Speake, Mrs. Howard Smith and Mrs. Perry M Moore. Entertains Friends With Luncheons On Friday and Saturday at the R. G. Murphy home, Mrs. Otto Ferrene was hostess to a few friends for one o'clock luncheon. Juice was served in the living room as the guests assembled and a.or a two course luncheon in - he dining room. On each occasion covers were laid for twelve at two prettily appointed tables, center ed with low bouquets of jonquils and narcissus. Throughout the re ceiving rooms were lovely with camellias, gladioli, and early blooming bulbs and shrubs. Vi cup diced green pepper Vi cup minced onions Vi cup diced celery • V4 cup butter or margarine 2li cups (1-lb. 4-oz. can) cooked tomatoes 2 tablespoons minced parsley 2 teaspoons salt -• !-* teaspoon pepper 1 teaspoon sugar 1 small bay leaf 2 whole cloves Vi teaspoon tabasco sauce IVi pounds uncooked shrimp - 4 cups hot cooked rice Cook green pepper, onions, and celery in heated butter until soft. Add tomatoes, parsley, and season ings. Simmer about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thick ened. (The sauce may be thickened slightly with a paste of cornstarch and water.) .. Clean and de-vein uncooked shrimp. Add to sauce and simmer untill shrimp are tender, about 10 minutes. Remove bay leaf and cloves. Serve over the hot rice. Yields six servings. Entertains Friends At Party, Luncheon Mrs. Dave Roberts was hostess to a number of friends on Friday afternoon and Saturday for bridge. On the former day guests for three tables were invited and a dessert course was served prior to the games. Mrs T. C Johnson, Jr., and Mrs W R. Anderson were score winners. Sautrday at noon guests were invited for a buffet luncheon fol lowed by bridge Fruits were ar rayed in a colorful and attractive arrangement to center the lunch eon table. Elsewhere in the din ing room yellow gladioli and daf fodils were used, and in the living room pink gladioli with daffodils were decorative. After cards prizes were presented Mrs. Leon ard Wilson and Mrs. Judson Da vis. Mrs. Roberts was assisted in serving by her daughters, Misses Kay and Barbara Roberts Mrs Tom Elder 3rd, of Orlando, Fla, who is visiting her husband’s parents here, was a guest for the luncheon. Godfrey Speaks At Auxiliary Meet The February meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary was held on Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. B. F Wingard with Mrs. W. G. King, Mrs. Earl Work man, Mrs. T. J. Leake, Mrs. Frank Miller and Mrs. R. W., Johnson assisting as hostesses. Mrs. Nent D. Workman was pro gram chairman for the a!ternoon and introduced General Ansel B. Godfrey who spoke on “Ameri canism.’’ During me business session a re port on the Mothers March on Polio was heard. Refreshments and decorations for the occasion were in the Wash ington birthday theme, using a red and white color jiote. A sweet course was served with coffee. Shady Grove Club Has February Meet The Shady Grove Home Dem onstration club held its regular monthly meeting at the club house Wednesday, Feb. 13. The meeting was called to or der by the president, Miss Ber nice Johnson, and the minutes read and roll called by Mrs. J. C. Nabors, secretary. , An interesting talk on teen agers was made by Mrs. David Pitts, fi'dub member. Mrs. S. M. Warner gave a demonstration on making pictures for the home.
